Sooooooooo ugly. Yay opinions! Discuss your own views. The biggest problem is a lack of a ducktail spoiler like the Trans Am.

so Buick. very malaise. much nope.

I saw a 1979 Trans Am at Black Friday. It was the first time I had seen silver. I thought it was pretty glorious.

Depends on the Firebird.

I've always liked the early 2nd-gen's the best, the fronts of the 1st-gen's always reminded me of like a snowplow or something.

You picked the only bad looking Firebird body style.

I need that.

Trans Ams and Formula Firebirds are fine, I'm talking about the base model and esprit.

Mmmm... I think I'm going to exempt Formula Firebirds from my hate. But esprits need to die!

Camaro all day, everyday in the F-Body debate

Uh please, late 2nd gen franken-Trans Am all day.

But your TA is a Firebird.

So glad my "Rockford Gold" Esprit had the optional spoiler. They are much derp without them.
THEM FLARES DOE

Spoiler = pass. They look soooooo bad without them. I'd be surprised if someone original designer ever intended them to be sold without one.

if they would have used a Camaro in smokey know one would look at a bird. Besides all the glorious engine noise in the movie was big block chevy
The bandit era cars are the only firebird/trans and worth more than a same year Camaro

100% true statement. It's hilarious they swapped the 500/th350 for a 545/4-speed for all the fun parts of the film. Though to be fair I would probably still own a Trans Am, but the value of the car would be close to zero.

You already have one, I call dibs. IIRC that specific one has a 600hp LS3, which is too much more a college kid anyways, better let me have it.

I'm guessing you got your 5s and 4s mixed up, but they didn't swap motors in the real cars. The trans ams in the movie still had 455s in them. The noise you hear in the movie is from the two lane blacktop 55 chevy dubbed over.

Camaros were the same way. They look droopy without the spoiler.

Second Gen. is best Gen.
The 1974 redesign is a Sin.

Not a fan of the '79 front end. Looks like some kind of vacuum cleaner.
![]() 12/05/2014 at 20:24 |

I thought it looked space shippy in a good way but I can see what'd guide you there.
![]() 12/05/2014 at 21:06 |

Just remember: without the Firebird there would be no Trans Am.
![]() 12/06/2014 at 01:23 |

oops yep!
![]() 12/06/2014 at 01:24 |

But you own a Trans Am now...

You're in college though... So it's still mine!

The 2nd gen?
![]() 12/06/2014 at 01:26 |

But it's a trans am... not a base Firebird or Esprit model.

Well, I'm two years older than you which means I'm vastly more qualified to handle such a dangerous machine, so mine . Respect your elders, son. Christ, kids these days...

I know. But my Esprit is still out there. IT WILL NEVER DIE.

Oh yeah! Did you ever follow up on the one you saw?
![]() 12/06/2014 at 16:45 |

Of course, how silly of me. Damn upperclassmen.

I can't think of any 70's-80's american car that I don't like. Can you show me the ugliest american cars of that era.

They looked better as Camaro's (the Jim Rockford era), but I do agree with you. Though they looked good once they got into the Smokey and the Bandit era. Never much cared for KITT era, TA's. The final gen looked pretty good, IMO...
All that aside, I have a soft spot for the first gen as my parents had a '68 (350 w/2BBL; it originally had a 4BBL, but the gas was eating my father alive...though he did enjoy being able to spin the rear tires at 55 MPH). They traded that car for a '77 Cordoba and I blame Ricardo Montalban...
