The Kia hamsters are nothing new... unless you've been living under a rock that is.
What is new are the cardboard hamster cutouts Kia shipped out to their dealers recently.
They've been doing this for a while now but they just came out with some new editions... either that or we just got them. Regardless, when I walked into our Kia dealership this morning we had some new hamsters. And one of them kind of disturbs me.
GAH!
I'm not sure what it is about this one. The hair, or the particularly beaky nose compared to the others, or what. But there's just something... not right.
Every time I peek out from the cubicle I'm sitting in right now, there it is. Watching me. Those beady black eyes peering right into my soul. Help.

You should take it home for ... uh ... research.

Do you want furries?
Because this is how you get furries.
Seriously though, their most recent commercial for the Soul EV (I think?) is even weirder.

Maybe it'll bring in more K900 buyers?

We didn't even sign up to sell the K900. To get certified to sell them you have to pay a fee and do all kinds of special training for the salespeople and technicians.
Our Kia store is in a very blue-collar area and we thrive on Souls, Fortes, and Sportages. We did get a Cadenza this year though... and it took us six months to sell.

This needs a cardboard strap on.

I mean...you still go for it right? Just for the story?

Is it wrong to want to see the model the hamster was modeled on?

Is it wrong to want to see who this was modeled on?

It's oddly charming that they embrace the ridiculousness that is their marketing campaign the way they do.

Where did this random naming moniker come from, did they hire away some badge engineers from Kawasaki? I get it when you entire line has a consistent naming convention, but it's a little odd when it applies to one model only.

Hmmm, maybe it would be better if she ran around without pants

I think you just found the point on the graph where the "attracted to" and "creeped out" lines intersect.
Or at least, that's my excuse.

This made me think of Aphex Twin's video for Windowlicker.
Freaking awesome music video if you haven't seen it, BTW.
