Anyone installed one of the Cree or similar sets for an H4 conversion? Results? success? Total scam?

I considered getting some for my truck but even on sale they were way more than I could budget for, especially since it would be an upgrade for my non dd

Don't do it! Oh the carnage that comes with mounting the ballasts, and the eyes of every other driver....
Just say no!

Please, it's not like new cars aren't all coming off the lot with eye-searing lights (both front and rear).
Can't beat 'em, might as well join 'em.

I understand that, but there's really got to be a limit. It's like the LED lightbars on police/first responder vehicles. Great that it's visible at 2500ft, but jesus fucking christ once you're within 500 feet of them you just go blind. A cop with a safety vest on standing at the back his car with his arms up would be invisible to a driver because of that damn light bar.
But you know what's worse than the eye-searing head/tail lights? Dashboard lights you can't dim. That's just messed up.

I was considering them for my 2012 Mazda5 when I found this article:

It sounds like a solid idea, but the execution is not yet ready for primetime.
