Over the weekend I finally laid down my cash on a Hobart 140. Craigslist special. I'm pleased as punch.
Previous owner had it for 6 months and decided he wanted a MillerMatic 212. I'll hopefully have a chance to play with it this weekend.

I like your drill. I have one of those. Nice welder too!

Kick ass dude!
I spy a gas kit!
BTW don't dick around with a flippy helmet, get an auto-darkening one.

Gas kits are a necessity. Flux wire bozonics make me want to kick their perpatrators in the nuts.
Also, auto-dark helmet seconded. Even if you often have to keep pulling the auto-darkening helmet off because you need to inspect your weld somewhere your be-helmeted head won't fit. Not quite like this, but same principle:

Tip/wire size? I use mostly .035, but it's not the best for everything by a long shot, so second question: what do you intend to use it for, mostly?

Flux core is necessary if you weld in any kind of moving air, like outside.

Well, but for just about any type of auto use or project use in still air outside, gas is still typically the way to go. I'm criticizing the flux-core-only/no gas contingent who do it because it's cheaper - just not a good idea unless you have to. Better cooling and cleaner welds seem like they'd be a no-brainer if you have the option.

I did! Got an Antra 6000 series. Crazy cool since I've only used flip ones before.

The guy I bought it from gave me a 10# spool of FC 0.035 wire. I'll mostly be doing 20 gauge body panels so I plan on buying 0.023 wire and tips. My old Datsun 280z has thin metal!

I've been known to do as small as 28GA or badly corroded 22GA with .035, but I can't recommend it.

I used one for the first time recently. Doesn't it just seem so magical at first?

Agree. Gas is best. I keep a spool of flux core for the times I weld outside and the air is moving.
