Or rather, will be. Either way, long live the Land Rover Defender. Have a photo dump, starting with the Defenders (and Series) I've spotted during my travels.

In all seriousness, though, it's sad to see the days of venerable models go. Antiquity is refreshing in the days of perpetual superficial refreshes. If I had the choice between a Versa and Tsuru, I'd do Tsuru. Same goes for a 2000-something aircooled beetle vs old Polo if I had the choice a while back. Maybe it's just because of nostalgia or the effect of it being forbidden fruit, but this is particularly significant to the disappearance of the "familiar" model or platform.

And shoot me for that "word play."

My brother had one of these, with this equipment but in green, and it was such a beautiful thing to behold, one of the greatest designs of automotive history. Driving it was not a nice experience, hard suspension, interior trim was mostly metal and it's not a fast car (it was a diesel), but damn I could sit and watch it for hours..
