Finally got home for a week and read the winter issue of OJ. After their third installment on their LR4, I read this:
I've definitely lost some respect for the program. How disappointing.

I'm sorry, but this is dumb.
It's Top Gear! Of course they were stupid and hard on the cars. As for Tread Lightly, who knows what they did off camera. We got 48 minutes of tv, out of 48 hours on the road.

They loaned a vehicle to a show based on hooning and destruction, what did they expect?

Don't know what they expected from top gear really. Respect for and full knowledge of the vehicles isn't really their thing. It's like giving Chris Harris a car on track and getting upset that he slid it and ruined the rear tyres.

I think they were expecting a more gear oriented episode, maybe exploring America's majesty, something along those lines.

I think TG:USA's track record speaks volumes.

I don't think OJ was ignorant to TG:USA's track record, thus the emphasis on the agreement with the producers. The bigger bummer has to be the lack of Tread Lightly ethics, especially for a business built around environmentally responsible off-road culture.

Many of our readers will recognize the Morris Marina Owners Club Monthly Marina in a recent episode of Top Gear UK . I feel it is critical to comment on a few aspects of the show, most importantly the lack of Don't Drop-Pianos-On-Vehicles ethics and unnecessary abuse of all of the vehicles used. Beyond loaning the Morris Marina to Top Gear , Morris Marina Owners Club Monthly had no involvement with the script or use of the vehicle. The show producers advised us that the Marina would be used for a "road-trip" travel adventure that would include enthusiastic driving and competitive ice-racing. Unfortunately, the drivers disrespected the vehicles and the terrain, actions we do not condone. The only upside of this show was proof of how extremely tough the Marina really is; that only a compressor mount, a few fender clips, fenders, body shell, window glass, a few pieces of trim, hood, engine, and suspension were damaged speaks volumes to this vehicle's durability.

Did they not watch the last episode featuring SUVs where they absolutely battered them. Adam pretty much destroyed that Escalade. Tanner reduced the value of that Range Rover Sport to a £1 because of how hard he drove it and Rutledge well... he barely went off road and when he finally did the Jeep failed completely and he quit. Still 2/3 ruined cars would be a massive warning signal if Top Gear US were asking to borrow an off roader from me.

As a fan of TG UK I was bummed to hear about the wake of destruction they leave behind them. Tread Lightly or even common decency is not something these crews US or UK understand or care about. Trust me, as someone who has watched all seasons of TG UK multiple times, it breaks my heart and hero worship I once had for them.
Also, OJ was happy to get the exposure, but after the fact were happy to put that blurb in when there was great concern over the type of exposure and backlash they might get.
