This is pretty simple really, and could actually make it a competitor of the Charger on all levels.

Kinja'd!!!

First, change the name. Call the damn thing Commodore like it actually is.

Second, there needs to be more trim levels. Everything from LS to SS.

LS:

3.6L V6 pair to 6-speed manual or automatic

Cloth seats with manual adjustment

Smaller MyLink radio screen and no navigation, optional full-size screen

Standard Commodore fascias

Starts at $25k to undercut the Charger

Kinja'd!!!

1LT:

3.6L V6 paired to 6-speed manual or auto

Cloth seats with power drivers seat, optional leather w/ heaters

Standard full-size MyLink screen, optional Navigation

Optional sunroof

Standard backup camera, optional sensors w/ alert package

Fog lights

Starts at $28.5k

2LT:

Same as 1LT, but with 6.2L V8

Optional MagRide

Optional RS Appearance package (to look like SS)

Starts at $30k

LTZ:

3.6L V6 or 6.2L V8, 6-speed auto only

MagRide optional on V6, standard on V8.

Standard heated Leather with driver and passenger power adjustment

Standard Full-size MyLink with Navigation

Optional Sunroof

Fog lights front and rear

Standard Front and rear parking sensors, backup camera

Optional Driver alert package

Optional RS appearance package

Starts at $35k for V6, $38k for V8.

Kinja'd!!!

SS:

6.2L V8, 6-speed manual only

Standard MagRide w/ track mode

Leather w/alacantara inserts in seats and on steering wheel/shifter.

Optional Competition front seats from Corvette

MyLink with performance data recorder

Performance brakes

Optional active exhaust

Optional Sunroof

Starts at $45k

Third, MARKET THE DAMN THING. How do you think Dodge sells so many Chargers? Because they market the shit out of them. I don't think I've seen a single commercial for the SS.

Fourth, when production comes to a close on Oz, bring it to America. This car is too good to kill off after so little model years in America.

These are just what I think will work. And yes, this is what bored me does.

I think a name change and trim levels could definitely help. I forget it's on sale until someone on here mentions it. I like the understated looks but a lot of people want their fast v8s to look like fast v8s. I think we (jalop community) are in the minority on that end.

The problem with going up against the charger is Chevy already has a car in that segment.

In the end this is the same company that knowingly put out deadly products and didn't care. Not known for the best decision making.

First, partner with another company. Which they've already done with AMG (IIRC)

Second, scrap everything. I mean everything. Throw out the V12 that is essentially two Duratecs glued together. The V8. The chassis. EVERYTHING.

Third, let ze Germans do everything under the body. Use AMG's V12 in the larger touring cars, and AMG's smaller V8 under the Vantage cars. Use Benz's Satnav system and all other electronics. Put the first model on the AMG GT's chassis.

Fourth, design the same beautiful bodies that put them back on the map in the early 2000s. Though update them all so they don't all look similar but with bits and pieces pulled here and there.

Fifth, Profit. And actually being able to seel your products in the US with updated safety regulations.

Ooh, that a toughie.

First, Develop new engines. DOHC and direct injected V6 (3.0L to 3.5L) and I4 (1.5L to 2.5L). Develop new transmissions. If you're going to stick with CVTs, make them good. If not, 6 or 7 speed dual clutch auto. Develop new adjustable architecture ala VW's MLB to put under everything.

Second, Slowly update everything in their current US lineup. Upgrade interior and exterior materials and design. Have a common design cue throughout the lineup, stick with something like the samurai grille.

Third, expand your lineup. Add a Mid-sized sedan, fullsize sedan, compact crossover based on the Mirage, Add the Shogun and L200 back to the US lineup. Maybe a coupe based on the Lancer called Eclipse.

Fourth, create a halo car. This would be the Evo. Develop a Turbocharged I4 based on the new I4 architecture. Also develop a new AWD system that uses both a 6-speed manual or the 7-speed dual clutch.

Fifth, increase the amount of dealers nationwide. At least three in every major city.

Sixth, once you have that all down and are making money, start experimenting with hybrid tech. And don't try to one-off it like Toyota does the Prius. Just make hybrid versions of cars already in the lineup.

Seventh, profit and you're back in the US.

In order to generate profit the US Dollar to Australian Dollar exchange rate has to be favorable. It hasn't been great since they started importing the GTO in 2004. The more expensive models have a greater profit margin. Therefore you can't make the economics on the lower end models work out with the slimmer profit margin when the currency is working against you. A little bit of negative change in the dollar exchange wipes out the slim profit margin.

They also need a top trim to compete with Hellcat. Although it is not quite as powerful as the Hellcat, I believe VXR8 GTS with SC is available in other parts of world. 576HP. I would buy it in a heartbeat if it were available with 6MT. It would be a perfect daily driver. :D

I actually own a 2013 Caprice(I work in Saudi Arabia and they are sold as Chevy Caprice here). It's a nice daily driver with lots of power from 6.0 V8. It's also big enough to be chauffeured in.

Also his pricing is way off. If you take his example that is most comprable to the SS for sale now, LTZ V8, he is about $8,000 less than the current msrp. While I agree that it would be nice for Chevy to have a Charger competitor it just not possible with the current production of the Commdore/SS. Also, all GM manufacturing in Australia will end in 2017 and the rumor is the Opel Insignia/Buick Regal is going to replace the Commodore. Sorry, but this is death of the moderately affordable full size V8 RWD sedan from GM.

2: Call it what it needs to be called. The Impala. Whatever iteration the Impala is now, kill it, and call this the car. And the high performance version should be called the Impala SS. Yes, those were the days. Use heritage—-link it to the 90s Impala SS, and the 60s Impala SS

3: facelift. The car looks like the Chevy Cruze. Which is only good for sleeper car status. Give it some mean-ness. Some attitude. Not too much, we don't need the car to look like the pissed off lunch lady in High School that doubled at night as an illegal cage fighter.

4: Emphasize handling—-and how it handles much better than the Charger.

Commodore, Caprice, Impala, or Malibu, they're all wrong. Calling it a Commodore is a slap in the face to the Australians. Bad enough GM is taking away their auto industry there. Let them keep their history without having to add an asterix to explain how GM took the name too. Caprices will always be overbloated land yachts to me. Let the cops keep that one. Impala and Malibu have already been slapped on a FWD POSs so moving either of them over to a RWD "Sport Sedan" brings confusion and unwanted baggage to the new car. Talk about an asterix. As far as Chevy "SS", that's just a cheap trick, a Bait & Switch. We all know that when we hear SS we think Super Sport, not Sport Sedan. GM is cheapening that badge by doing it.

My suggestion is to bring back the Chevelle name, with the top of the line being the Super Sport. Those were great muscle cars in their day. I think it's a perfect choice. It evokes both Chevy's muscle car past and Nascar. Win.......Win!!

Our local police have had terrible results from their Chargers. They can't be the only ones who've had to call for a ride home after the tranny fails. If the Commodore's at least as reliable as their Tauruses, Chevy could have a market for more production in the western hemisphere.

AU production will end on most everything in the near future, so the Commodore's history if there's no market in the US, and there's almost none now.

The new Impala's supposed to be a great car. Is there a real police version, or has GM given up on it, happy with selling SUV's?

I like this article, i don't have any interest in this particular car but it's coming around. Does Chevy sale a ton of new base models to rental car companies as well?

I didn't know anyone with a Duramax was concerned with the environment. But I'm down with a 600hp SS that's got over 1000 lb/ft of twist.

They also need this:

SSkinflint

2.5 L twin turbo Diesel V6, manual, normal suspension that doesn't go wrong, leather interior because it's harder wearing in the long run which is what I'll be keeping the thing for, built-in dashcam, built-in cradle for ~5" phones, brakes, exhaust, sunroof, roofbars, estate, narrow tyres on steel wheels to save fuel and get ridiculous mileage.

What? Am I not allowed a nice car just because I want to save money?

Think of it as the "Clean Diesel" model.

Well it's not exactly a car targeted at enthusiast. It's audience is would be 5 series buyers.

Simple. Change the name to Impala SS and market it

I'm afraid I'm gonna have to disagree there. I think most 5-series buyers would look at MB, Audi, even Lexus before the SS. Partly for the badge alone.

I'm saying would be, like they would if they have the money for the one they wanted. It's targeting people who want a large sedan with a lot of power like a M5.

GM already has Zeta platform tooling in Oshawa, Canada where they make the current Camaro, so maybe they could continue the SS there. How's the Canadian Dollar against the U.S.?

Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to tech tab for work detail
