well it can rot there. my mom had an iron duke Camaro. motor ate itself twice. they were utter piles of scrap from the factory.

I'd rock this over an auto V8.

every stock version of this car was slow, so I might as well enjoy shifting while being smoked by every 4-cyl econobox that will line up next to it.

just now read the article, the iron duke was the last Camaro to have a 4 speed. in 83 the Z28 went to a 5 speed that was complete junk as well

The Duke can be hopped up to respectable hp levels but one does have to wonder why haha

I remember that haha I think you could only get the TPI 350 with the auto because the 5 speed could only handle the weak sauce 305. I used to own a 1988 Firebird Formula with the 305. Utter turd.

It's clear what you must now do.

You must buy this car and restore it to it's former glory!

What's with this speedometer? Did it have a double ended needle or something?

Canadian models had a funky two needle speedo. One needle read MPH and the other read KPH. Never seen another car with a setup like that.

in a Fiero it might make some sense, but here?

throw a SBC in it and call it a day. hell, throw a V6 and it will already feels like a rocket ship.

I'm curious to see just how many were produced with the duke. It might become a ''classic'' someday.

That 140 mph speedo is the most optimistic thing ever, ever

I saw one of these in the flesh in ten years turning wrenches for GM. Also saw an Iron duke Safari van once. So much unused space in the engine bay.

yeah all stick cars were 305. also no California car was a manual. the tuned port motors were not that bad, but needed just a little work to wake them up

I never understood that. Its a T-5 5 speed in those Camaros and Ford was using the T-5 in V8 Mustangs till '95 (even the 240hp/300FT lbs 94-95 Cobras have T-5s so it can handle way more power than that 305 or even 350 would make)

American models had it too. A friend has a '89 IROC wit TPI 305 and it has the same speedo.

i think you could swap the 350 heads for the 305 heads and get some power out of them that way. for whatever reason the 305 heads breathed better..

you can also just do a cam swap and full exhaust. then flash the ecm

It's a Canadian model with kilometers in white, miles in yellow. 140 km/h, 85 MPH

Here's a U.S. MPH version to show the weird double-ended needle:
