I haven't gone to my family Thanksgiving in 4 years now, for this among other reasons. Go look up how much flights are from Detroit to New York, then double it for Christmas a few weeks later. No regrets.

Offroading on turkey day this year, followed by food with the bf's family, and they're a whole lot nicer than mine anyway :)

We drove this year, not because of the air traffic congestion but because of the cost of airline tickets for a family of 5. It is interesting, though, to see traffic skirting weather. It's gonna get a lot more interesting as the day, and the storm, progress.
