Kinja'd!!!

The following story happened to my friend when he rented a Navigator in Miami. Did he behave correctly?

He went to some shopping mall (98% of Brazilians travel there with this single purpose in mind) and parked his rental giant SUV, at the same time someone parked an 8th gen Chevy Impala next to him. While my friend was still inside the car, the passenger in the Impala opened his door and left an enormous door ding in the Lincoln.

This fine gentleman looked at the ding and then at my friends face thus deciding it was nothing and started walking away from the scene. My friend was upset, it wasn't his car but that sort of thing is always annoying, he got out of the car and screamed at both the driver and passenger of the Chevy "Did you see what you have done?"

They didn't even answer him, so he started bashing the Impala with his door until there was a big crevasse on the passenger door.

Kinja'd!!!

Now, what's your analysis?

Apparently it was the only thing they had left, but I don't buy that, he once rented a Hummer.

He should have beaten the Impala with a bat while screaming about what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps.

I think he behaved exactly like the sort of douchebag who drives a Navigator.

Not sure if he behaved correctly but if I was in the same position I'd do the same.

Disclaimer; I have been in this position and carried out the same instant karma, right or wrong it definitely made me feel good.

yes. I would've done the exact same thing if the guy thought it'd be appropriate not to at least apologize for what he did. He wants to leave a small dent in my car to be a douchebag? Well, let's see how much he likes his missing mirrors and slashed tires!

To be fair I'm like that too, but cars are always closer to our hearts

He started with an over-reaction, which is a small problem, the other guy ignored him, which is a somewhat small problem, and then he WAY OVERREACTED and did something dangerous, stupid, and wrong, which was a HUGE problem.

Even if it was his own car, that was absolutely stupid to do.

Context in case anyone else doesn't get it. So fucking great.

I posted a reply to someone a few days ago on this very topic, to lazy to re type so I copied it; "Once I was sitting in my car, waiting for the wife because shops, and a women parks next to me and opens her door right into the side of my car,HARD, she looks at me and my car(it was not a prime example of its type) and shrugs her shoulders at me and walked off to the shops! I was a bit stunned at the lack of shit given by her and thought I better get out and have a look at the damage, I opened my door with way more force than needed and was pleased to see the dint she put in my car was not as big as her new dint. I wanted to wait for her to return to her but the wife returned and life moved on, jeez it felt good. Is it still CARma when it is dished out by the victim?"

My ex-wife once got frustrated at someone who parked too close to us, and used my passenger door in much the same manner... "Ha, that'll show'em!"

No, all she hit was their rub-strip, so she left no dents in their car. The thin sheetmetal at the edge of my door, however, folded over nicely.

What would you do in this situation? Someone dings your car and you are there, you tell them, they just shrug.

Ask for their contact and insurance information, and if they don't give it, take pictures with my phone, grab their license number, and file a police report for a hit and run.

I was parked in a really good spot at my gym, like right in the front. Out of nowhere, someone in a Volvo V70 parked next to me, nearly sideswiping my car in the process.

His passenger got out of the car, and in slow motion, their door went right into the side of my car.

I was livid - mostly because it just happened while I was sitting in the car. I got out and inspected the damage, not seeing anything. However, I still confronted the passenger and driver very calmly.

Ultimately, I felt like a complete douche. The people I just confronted for hitting my car and leaving no damage was a 70+ y/o couple. They were incredibly apologetic and were willing to pay for the damages (if there were any). Moreover, she said she didn't even know she hit my door - I could easily believe that, given her age.

As for the case of your friend, I probably would have responded the same way.
