So I've been using the sauna the last few days, but I gave this gauge a good look for the first time yesterday (temp is electronically controlled by a panel; gauge is secondary). 240?!?!? That's insane. At 180-190 it literally hurts to breathe. I can't imagine it is in any way safe or recommended to heat a sauna to 240 degrees. Shouldn't there be a red area on this gauge that says "too fucking hot, do not enter!"?
At 240 you wouldn't even need to pour any water on the rocks. You could just place it in a cup on the bench, and it would eventually just boil. Yikes.

I think anything above boiling point is probably a pretty hellish place to be.

Wet towel covering your nose and mouth allows you to breathe the hotter you let it go.

You're not man enough to be a world sauna champion

Uh yeah, I was only talking about like at the 140 area. In Iraq I used to keep a shemagh soaked just to breathe through and it was only really 120ish.

You could like use it to roast chickens for 100 people or something...

That is one arena that I do not even want to spectate, let alone compete.

About 160F and 55% humidity is just about right for a sauna. Once you get up to 60% humidity it starts to sting the ears a little.

A steamy shower works OK for me.
