I loved the new Mazda 6 from the get go. The one problem? The interior. It just didn't seem as modern as the rest of the car. This new update changes that.
The one thing that kills me? Why, in 2014/15/16 do we not have full auto up/down windows on every window? Hell, my Chevrolet has that (auto down all around with driver up). Just a little thing that annoys me.
For comparison's sake:

not a fan of auto up or down windows. Would prefer hand crank.

Electric parking brake NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. Do want.

No TDI no care. I'm glad they got delayed, I bought the FiST instead. But if the diesel gets delayed any longer, it will end up being my "dad" car in a few years.

funny in my 06 speed6 i had auto up/down

STOP THIS SHIT

Agreed but it's all the rage these days.

If I had my choice, I think I would too. One less thing to break. Still, in this day and age, if you're gonna have it, go all the way.

Me too. But the bank account says "Go fuck yourself, it's cheaper" My bank account isn't very nice to me.

How's about they give us a manual option with the top trim package and oh I don't know a real engine with balls instead of a gas-sipping hamsterwheel.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 14:42 |

Yeah, I all but forgot about it. I want to believe them when they say it's coming but for a smaller automaker, I understand the delays.

true.

EFME! Buddy! Good to see you! I haven't been on here that much (mostly lurking) do you still have the V?
Also, really? That's frustrating. That was a semi Ford/Volvo based platform though, right? Maybe that has something to do with it?
![]() 11/19/2014 at 14:44 |
|
I'm over it. I think it's better than the bulky design of the previous interior. I think it will be hell in a sunny glare but an excellent display can mitigate some of that.

Might be because of Europe. I noticed this first on cars from Europe. Like the Buick Regal.

The push button start placement is a bit high up. Assuming that is the PBS.

THIS. I really want to like this car... But I keep hoping for a turbo or even a V6...
![]() 11/19/2014 at 14:47 |

This. Still, I'd prefer having an adequate car that handles really well than a super powerful car that handles well and doesn't get shit for mileage. Since I can only afford one car, I like the balance. However, they do need a hi-po version for those that want it and I think it would sell.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 14:48 |
|
Well it is out everywhere but here. I don't know what they overlooked. EIther demand isn't good enough to do the final adjustments or they need to rework more than they thought.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 14:48 |
|
I'm think all I need for "balance" is about 40 extra horses under the hood.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 14:48 |

I keep hoping for the Diesel (mmm...torque).
![]() 11/19/2014 at 14:49 |
|
It's possible. How often do you (in the real world) use it as a hooning measure? Don't get me wrong, I would prefer the manual lever, but this works just as well for everyday use.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 14:50 |
|
I think that would be doable and not kill the fuel mileage. I'd be on board. The diesel would be nice. We might turn blue in the face from holding our breaths for too long though.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 14:51 |
|
That's possible. Demand is slowly creeping up for diesels in passenger cars but I don't think it's there yet. Look at the Cruze diesel. A genuinely good car that's priced reasonably and yet, we can't give them away. Also, the price of diesel is silly and should be like half what it is.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 14:53 |
|
Yeah, it looks half ass'd. Not a fan. Looks like an afterthought.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 14:56 |

Two nits - 1) the front end, while less hideous, still gawps at you; 2) too many shiny bits in the interior.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 14:57 |

The poor cruze diesel. Part of the problem with it is that the Eco is just so good. Incredible mileage, reasonably equipped, priced in line with other trims. If the diesel was just a grand or two cheaper or if the eco didn't exist it would be a lot better selling.
But who even knows about the 6. It sounds like mazda was doing research for a while and they were advertising it on their website for months.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 15:27 |
|
I think you hit the nail on the head with the eco. The price on the diesel isn't bad, but compared to the regular eco, it's overpriced. The diesel will likely get far better mileage than it says on the sticker, however, you can't really market that. Finally, it should have come out no more than a year after the car itself. They waited too long. VW is eating their lunch.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 15:28 |

I don't mind the gawp because it's well integrated into the design. It's not just tacked on. Agreed fully on the interior.

You're right - sometimes it's the little things. I don't need a Mazda logo (especially a shiny one) on the steering wheel. I bought it, I know what it is. Chrome around the instruments on an old Jag is charming, on a modern car it's not required or wanted. The strips on the door are overkill. Same for the vents, same for the steering wheel. And don't get me started on the lower part of the dash.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 15:49 |
|
Haha. Nailed it. I don't mind the logo on the steering wheel on most cars. But some are just so reflective! Everything else? How about just brushed aluminum? Would you be on board with that? It would be a lot more muted, less in your face.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 16:03 |

never. All the cars I've owned had bench seats so they had a 'pedal' for parking/e-brake.

Condo I had in DC before I moved here - all the chrome bits came out of the kitchen/bathroom and replaced by brushed nickel. And my old 300D reminded me, gently, that I was piloting a Mercedes:

who knows! but its the small stuff that matters to me these days.
still got the V. on stock wheels since i cracked a wheel. bummer
![]() 11/19/2014 at 16:44 |

Holy mackerel that looks great! I agree the outgoing model's exterior was a bit disappointing. Not bad, but it felt like a step down from the model it replaced. This fixes it for sure.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 16:44 |

Also, these wheels. Wow.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 16:51 |

This is going to be so uncomfortable.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 16:59 |

Agreed. But of course, I am going to have to go test one to find out! :)

Split, simple five spokes are my jam.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 17:00 |

I hope by 'exterior' you meant 'interior'. Thoughts? But agreed all around either way. It's a step in the right direction.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 17:03 |
|
Agreed. I think the little things are bothering me the older I get. The details matter a lot more than the big picture (though, that is important).
Glad you still have the V. Sorry about the wheel! How did that happen?
![]() 11/19/2014 at 17:04 |

I liked the gentle indentations. Same about the bathroom and kitchen. First thing I did when I bought my house was de-shineify it. Brushed accents everywhere.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 17:05 |

Ah. Yeah, I had an old TownCar like that. Good thing it was effectively a sled to begin with. Snow was always fun. Brake or not.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 17:13 |

Derp, yes I meant interior. The exterior is gorgeous . I think I typed exterior because while I was writing that post I was wondering if they made any tweaks to the exterior.

We rent now, but we're looking to buy. So many apartments (in our humble price range) in this town have bathrooms that a) need renovation, or b) are all marbled and chromed up. Either way, my work will be cut out for me.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 17:36 |
|
Keep the marble haha. I have a friend down here that owns her own bed and breakfast. All the bathrooms have large marble showers. Holy. Crap. But it's tasteful.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 17:37 |
|
Been there. Haha. I think that the interior update (if they can get people to notice it in the buying public) has the power to create a surge in sales.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 17:46 |

Salesman: " Yeah, I have a route we can go through to test major aspects of the car"
You: "Don't worry, we won't leave the lot" *Turns on and off repeatedly.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 18:29 |
|
I forget which apartment, but the brown marble with white streaks was horrible - grey, not so bad. I think that one got thrown out because it had an electric stove. I have to have gas - like laundry in the building for her, it's required.
![]() 11/19/2014 at 19:02 |

I really need to drive one of these. I heard they don't give the smoothest ride, but I want to experience it for myself.
![]() 11/20/2014 at 09:50 |

I've driven the current gen and it's a hoot. I had no problems with how it rode. It was tight and well damped.
![]() 11/20/2014 at 09:53 |
|
Yeah, the place I'm talking about had dark greens with light streaks and light greys with streaks. It's nice. But I draw the line at brown. Gas stoves rule. Period. If I could have afforded it when I bought my house, I would have a gas stove. Temperature control on an electric unit is just useless.

I can neither confirm, nor deny whether or not that would be me.
That would be me.

i have no idea and i've been too busy at work to get it unmounted to ship to the manufacturer

I hear you on the busy thing. Oppo/Jalopnik used to be a place I could spend hours. Now I am so slammed I can hardly check the local news stations. It'll get better man.
