I've probably told you this before, but Helmet was the first band I ever saw live. They opened for Primus in 1995 on the Tales From The Punchbowl tour. I like them in a nostalgic way. If the "90s rock" station plays them I get excited even though they only ever play "Unsung," or "Milquetoast"

OOOOH. Last time I saw Helmet was in Chicago in 2008. I still blame that show for most of my hearing damage.

I like Helmet, but most concerts turn me off these days. Too loud, sound horrible.

As a sound engineer and sound designer, I hate most concerts. There are very few I will jump on the opportunity to go for.

That said, my favorite Helmet song is Better.

I don't know, in the mid 00's I couldn't find a halfway decent sounding venue, but alot of places have upgraded and spent some good money to make it decent in all kinds of weird rooms. We have a place here that used to be 100% terrible, big wide, shallow room with a concrete balcony. I don't know how they did it, but they finally (80 years later) got the place to sound okay with amplified music. and now I wear earplugs, unlike the days I used to play through 2x 8x10 SVT's, a 2x15 Bassman, and other amps at full boil with no protection.

I hate it when they turn the sound up to the point that it distorts the PA speakers. Whoever is doing the sound has to be able to hear that.

It's all about ear. Most "live" sound guys I've met did not really major in it or know a whole lot about it. I've worked with people that do recording on the side, and it's a massive difference. We have the right attitude about the sound, and value that. Most guys just collect a paycheck.

The EQ is a big deal live, and most people don't spend the time working it out. There's also turning it up too much to cover that, and using the wrong equipment. I've got nearly 10 years of experience behind me with working all that out...but now the industry doesn't like having specialized people, so oh well...

I can ask the owner the next time I see him (which is on a somewhat regular basis now) exactly what year it is. It essentially was stuck in a container with 3 other pieces of similar contraband, brought here, and found it's way to where it is. I've been told he's gotten offers of absolutely stupid amounts of money but wont let it go.

The Delta HF on Petrolicious (owned by the same guy with the Stratos that I know) has a 8v motor.

I'll try and get a better picture soon.

More of a fair weather fan. Only really ever got into the Meantime album.

I saw them open for Faith No More in 1992 and they literally took my breath away.

That said, I will never see them live again after that show because nothing could top it and I want that memory to remain perfectly intact and untainted.

yeah Betty is not one of my favorites. Meantime is just the shit. they do still put on a hell of a show though regardless. So damn tight
