Almost hit a cop last night.

He was the only other car on the road, and he was sitting at a green light. No flashing lights or sirens, just chilling in the middle of the road. I came to a quick stop behind him, ending up within two feet of his bumper. There was another lane to our left, but I mean... if you see a police car stopped in the road ahead, you don't just pass it. Apparently he was fiddling around with his computer, because I could see him wave sorry in the glow from the screen.

But yeah, I really want a dashcam now. I have faith that most police aren't crooked, but just imagine if I DID hit him. If he let off the brakes before I came around the bend, I would have been just that much slower to realize he wasn't moving. Then, with no witnesses, it's his word against mine and my only chance would be for him to admit fault.

...and it would have been your fault for reckless driving even though he was stopped in the middle of the road for no reason. I know someone who was hit driving through a green light by a cop who ran a red light. They decided that it was her fault too.

If the cop had his sirens on then it should be her fault.

The law says you should yield to vehicles with sirens and lights activated.

It was a case of a cop deciding that he's exempt from red lights, popping his cherries for a half a second, and then just going. There was no way for her to stop. The cop she hit had a dashcam that's tied to the lights. Naturally, this was never released. She tried to get a lawyer since she had to pay a deductible, she got a ticket for causing an accident, and her insurance went way up, but no lawyer would touch it since the cops are so in bed with the judges around here.

That's the way the cookie crumbles. If you hit a cop car with it's lights on whether you can stop or not, you're gonna lose.

i was standing in the street texting and a cop came up to me and stopped. After a few seconds he switched the sirens on and off, waited and then got out and shot me.

yea I ended up pulling out a machine gun and showing him whats up. then I hid in the hills til the heat was off. I never had a cop come after me for doing nothing but standing there and i'm not even black. (i know that might be racist but that's how they roll even if its wrong)

lol GTA - i had put down the controller to text a buddy, I just happened to be standing in the street when I put the controller down and a cop rolled up and stopped as I was blocking traffic. He bleeped his sirens, i didn;t do anything and after a few more seconds I got a star and they got out and started shooting at me. I put down the phone and proceeded to riddle them with bullets. I had never gotten a wanted level by just standing there before.

Don't cop cars have dash cams as standard equipment? If you were to hit a cop car I think his dash cam Would be enough proof of fault including his own. But for other instances you probably should get one

They aren't always recording, I think. I'm also pretty sure that the officer could choose whether or not to use it as evidence.
