...So, you're telling me that you have to change your tires twice a year because of a seasonal change? You have to go out and buy an extra set of wheels and special winter tires, throw them on in the middle of November, and keep them on throughout four-ish months where you'll then have to swap back into your fun summers?

Snow comes to you and not the other way around? What?

Seriously, the thought of having to spend a few extra minutes letting the cabin in my car warm up, the wiper blades melt, and scraping ice off my driver and passenger side windows in the morning, on a Monday when I probably already woke up late because it's fucking Monday is giving me intense nausea. Like, I can tolerate having to throw on a sweater before I leave.

It's going to be 79F tomorrow. I'll take dying of thirst in our drought stricken state. Thanks.

Not sure dumping hot water on freezing glass is too good an idea. If you have any small chip in your windshield the rapid change in temperature will make it 10x worse. Warm water does the trick just the same. You at least clear your roof off somewhat before hitting the road right? People that feel it's perfectly fine to hop on the highway with over a foot of snow on their roof are the bane of my existence.

We have so much water it fucks over our lives in the winter (lake effect snow - look it up). But if you want to act like california (or whatever dorught ridden dirthole) is better for a lack of it, then we won't share any of it :P

Driving in snow is "god's" gift to hooning. I've gotten by just fine my whole life without dedicated snow tires, not-bald all-seasons work just fine for me. You just have to know how to drive (for the most part). And call me crazy but I kind of enjoy scraping ice sometimes and would rather live in Alaska than any tropical paradise.

When people drive up to the mountains here in Southern California they load their roofs up with snow. Being immediately blinded after a panic stop on your way down a mountain sounds like a good time!

It's not so much driving that's my issue. It's the day to day misery of having to deal with the freezing cold and what some people need to do before they set off to work.

I understand. I've just always been the type of person who is more comfortable in 20 than 80. Unless there's wind. I hate wind. The day to day stuff never bothered me because it's always been like that for me.

if you have the right clothes its no different then summer. Honestly, the part I hate the most is the fact that I cant ride my motorcycle in the snow.

also, realize our houses have HEATING. we dont stay outside like idiots all day. out of 24 hours in a work day, a average person is outside maybe...20 minutes? walk to car, drive in warm car to work, walk to work front door. repeat in reverse. sometimes you have to stay out for 5 more min to fill up the car. boo hoo. get a jacket (they are like wear able blankets)

are you inside a house right now? thats how we spend 90% of our day.

for skiiers, they are moving and have some (REALLY) good jackets (for example, my Phonix ski jacket is a $1000 retail..I got it for 500 at a show :P), so to them spending a couple of hours out in the cold on a sunday (i used to be there from 8am to 9PM) is nothing. A good jacket will also last you YEARS. I bought that phonix...5 years ago. still going strong.


where I am (thunder bay, toronto) it has dropped down to -80 F. I put on an extra sweater underneath, and wear my pajamas under my jeans. big whoop.

you can still go outside. you just have to be better dressed for it. the aforementioned skiing. snow mobiles. winter hooning.

its like its raining. you dont go out in the rain with just a t-shirt do you? you take a rain coat, and some waterproof shoes and an unbrella and what not.

snow is just the same. but brighter. (no seriously, the sun reflects off the snow and sometimes its IMPOSSIBLE to walk around without either squinting or sunglasses[for me anyways, but i've also had laser eye surgury, and it made me more sensitive to that kinda stuff]). you put on a jacket, a hat, some gloves, a pair of boots and away you go!

granted, it helps to be very good at producing body heat (something which I find the southerner's are lacking in). But other wise its great fun.

Up here in Ontario, a lot of people have separate winter and summer cars. If you can't afford to insure both, just swap the insurance come November, switch it back come May.

While i agree with you that the cold is no big deal, I am outside when Summer as much as possible (Different Sports, Biking, Swimming, Hiking, Walking with SO, Concerts, Patio Drinking, Driving to random places/cities)

Eh, it's not so bad. Hiking through a forest covered in freshly fallen snow is actually petty enjoyable. Plus I have a garage so don't have to worry about scraping windows. Also not having to pay $40000 a gallon of gas is a great way to afford hooker's and booze.

I lived in Colorado for 3 years, and there was quite a number of suicides in the winter (including our neighbor). I honestly think low vitamin D could play a part. You see in the summer people wear lots of sunscreen there. For one it's almost never cloudy, and theres no shade compared to states with trees. They are also a mile closer to the sun than most of the USA. So people are walking around even in the summer with low vitamin D. Then comes winter. People still go outside some but they are wearing so many layers their face and hands are the only thing exposed to sunlight. The sun also sets an hour earlier because of the mountains compared to a flat state. Even I started getting depressed by February.

Waiting for the cabin to warm? Heating the windshield? Youre all doing it wrong..

1) lift wiper blades and make sure they arent stuck.

2) turn on car, rear defroster, heated seats, front defroster, and the spray the shit out of the windshield with washer fluid.

3) dust off the rest of the car with a squeegee and then go about your day. 5 minutes max...

At $5 a gallon for wiper fluid, id do it every day. Instantly melts the snow, far lower risk of trouble. Also, its been cold enough here in NJ to instantly freeze water, so no, i dont want a sheet of ice on my winshield from being stupid.

also, squeegees arent perfect, but they dont scratch the paint. I usually use a broom to clear off the wholecar while its running, then spray to get the last bits.

embrace the cold. But like AMGTech, fuck wind.

Los Angeles. Our summers are typically 75-80 degrees. The only time it gets truly hot is when desert winds make their way over the mountains, but that's usually a few days out of the year. Though, this year it happened more often than it usually does.

In those temps sometimes I use my windshield washer fluid. It's a bit easier on the glass and works almost as well.

However, here in Canada it can get *really* cold. Two years ago we had a day where the high temperature was -26 C. I can't adequately describe how cold that is.
