The GLI has a new issue guys! sometimes when I turn the car off and get out, I can hear the mechanical/electrical whirring of a pump coming from the back-right of the car (side where the fuel filler is). After having my neighbor help me diagnose it, I figured out it is the fuel pump. Iurning the car from off to ACC, and back off again, stopped the pump, but I'm a little worried about it staying on in the first place.

I went to the dealer for this already, and they couldn't find anything wrong, but something is definitely busted. What should I do?

fast VW for your time

Wait it out a bit. Is the weather cold where you are?

*Should've bought something else*

Not a WRX because those are for me and for me only. (and anyone else here that has one)

*Leaves in a cloud of dust*

It is, but considering it did it when it was about 50* out, I don't think it's the cold

...I'm going to get an STI after high school just so I can climb on top of your head nate! :P

JK, probably gonna get something even less reliable, like an RX8, or an older performance BMW.....

ok... (keep in mind I'm 16...) is there any way to get that checked without removing the gas tank/pump from the car?

FInd the fuse panels for your car. The fuel pump relay should be in one of those

not even gonna argue. I shoulda fisted, and I'm serious. I regret the GLI. it's an OK choice, but it's not the choice I should have made

the fuse/relay box for the fuel pump is under the hood.

I think my friend had to replace his high pressure fuel pump in his Mk6 GTI. Apparently on the GTI they're notoriously prone to failure. I'm not sure if you're experiencing the same problem or not or if the GLI even uses the same kind of HPFP as the GTI.

The pump relay is in the electrical box under the hood. No need to mess with the tank.

should be the same pump. and all the pumps are shit designs on these. the water pumps on the Mk6 are PLASTIC. my stepdad's failed at 5K miles (car was brand new, 3 months old!)

yeah... don't get me wrong, if I were to take a long trip, I'd much rather take a GLI. it's a comfier daily driver, and all around is a great package. The FiST I test drove had the recaros, and they were too firm for me to enjoy.

As a driver's car though, the FiST is in a league above and beyond the GLI. It's chuckable, flirty, fun and seductive. the GLI's a nice thing to toss about, but I find that even with the highest performance all-seasons I could find, the car just feels lazy and slow. Also, don't get me started on it's long overhangs, and the scraping that driving hard on twisty roads can cause!

the back of the fusebox cover also serves as a good guide to find it. also bring a multimeter to find out if the current stays the same.

I like my interiors to have less plastic than my tows from 8 years ago :P

Joke aside, I should have bought something like a FiST or used MS3...

I can get over some hard plastic for a 260 horsepower, Nurburgring record-setting performance FWD coupe. But that's just me. :P

I'd go MS3, because it doesn't look like a catfish and have a weird ass interior design like the FiST.

How long does the fuel pump stay on in those instances, when you don't interfere (turning the ignition on and off)? A lot of newer cars will run the fuel pump to do a pressure check for emissions reasons. However, this usually occurs several hours after the car has been off.

From what I've been reading, it seems like newer Vokswagens will run the fuel pump to pressurize the fuel system every time the car is unlocked and the driver's door is opened. It does this for supposedly easier starting. This is normal. If the fuel pump doesn't shut off after a while (I'm not sure what the normal duration is), then that's not normal.

Are you sure it's not the evap system running? I have no idea if that car has an evap pump, but it could be directing gas vapors back into the gas tank.

Given that its at the rear and on the filler side, it very well could be the fuel pump. But are you sure its not an after-run coolant pump for the turbo? My Mk7 runs a coolant pump for about 2 mins after shutting down and has a similar whirring type of noise (clearly from the engine bay area though).
