2010's - 2016 Mustang GT350 - 5.2L of flat plane goodness.
2000's - 2003 Mustang Cobra - The Terminator, supercharged for your Camaro rending pleasure.
1990's - 1994 Mustang GT - New body style, same Cam-in-block 5.0l
1980's - 1986 Mustang SVO - The discerning gentleman's (or woman's) 80's pony car.
1970's - 1971 Mustang Mach 1 - Dat Ass
1960's - 1968 Mustang GT 390 - Stripped down, power and cool, Steve McQueen Style.
This is a definitive list.

Why not BOSS 351? and no 1969 Mach 1?

Termi is not as good as the 2013 GT500.

I agree with most of this
![]() 11/17/2014 at 13:52 |

Yes, but its termi is 2000's not 2010's and the GT350 is better than GT500.
![]() 11/17/2014 at 13:54 |

Because the 69 has to run against the other cars from that decade, and the coolest mustang of all time is a Highland Green 1968 GT 390.

I never liked the blobby 94-98. I always prefered the 99-04.
Probably because I grew up racing this car in NFS: Hot Pursuit 2.
![]() 11/17/2014 at 13:56 |

Probably because 1969 isn't in the decade of the 70?
![]() 11/17/2014 at 13:56 |

yeah the only "blobby" as you call them mustangs worth their salt were the 94-95 because of the 302 carry over. Mod motors are garbage unless boosted. Which is why the Cobra is excellent.

I actually liked it's face better than it's ass

But louvers bro.
![]() 11/17/2014 at 13:58 |

Yeah, I just call em blobby because that differentiates from the sharper 'new edge' cars. I'd drive a 94-95, because they're insane, but never have liked the look.

I'm so stupid. Then it would be the S197 that is better than the termi. After all, it brought back the muscle car.

20005 Mustang GT is cooler than Termi.
2013 Mustang GT500 is cooler than 2015 GT350.
Fixed.
![]() 11/17/2014 at 14:06 |

No, the Termi was fantastic and nearly indestructible short block. plus 6 speed T-56. and the GT350 is going to be the cooler all around car.

Only because Bullitt

I know that but I'm adding why not 1969 Mach 1 instead of GT390?

Exactly, this is coolest mustangs, not best, not fastest, coolest. We will never be even a fraction of a bit as cool as Steve McQueen

This seems like a lot of "typical" choices. There a lot of great cars that deserve some recognition in here. Definitely more so than the GT350 and 94 GT. The Termi is about the only one that belongs on here. This is the coolest mustang list right?!
2010s - 2013 GT500 - First production mustang able to reach 200mph. What's cooler than being able to say you own a mustang capable of supercar-territory speeds?
2000s - Terminator/2K Cobra R - If you don't include the Cobra R because racecar, then the Termi definitely wins. However, coming from a day one Termi owner, they weren't what they're cracked up to be. Cheap version of the Viper/Vette T-56. An IRS that was never properly developed and therefore actually caused more issues than anything. Don't mention the fact that the interior was literally a GT with a gauge cluster and some microsuede seats.
1990s - This one I'll leave as a big mix up. Realistically it could be split by the introduction of the SN95 in 94, but keeping to the theme...The 95 Cobra R or the Saleen S351 wins this one in my book. Pushrod 351Ws are like music to my ears. The 93 R deserves a commendation as well though, leaving a big bang on the Foxbody chassis.
Everything older I agree with. The SVO and Mach 1 were ahead of their time, and McQueen makes the Mustang a world renowned vehicle.

The reason why I didn't pick the newer 2013 GT500 is, I've never met a cool person driving one. Either its the bro-tastic driver or the super car geek, no one who has owned or driven one, has referred to their car as the "white mustang in the parking lot" its always the GT500. There is no subtlety, no elegance or nuance. Just brute fucking in your face 'merica. which honestly, isn't what I would call 'cool'
Second, the Cobra R isn't on here because it is a race car and only nerds drive/own them. Not to mention the whole overrating the power of the engine in the first year to the point where they all were recalled.
The 90's I almost chose the 95 GTS, because stripper muscle cars are always coolest, but I felt the need to keep the first year, because Ford actually listened to the fans and kept the Mustang RWD instead of the whole Probe fiasco they wanted to pass off as the Mustang even though the SN95's are stop gaps, they were competent cars.
For the record, Saleen and Shelby cars aren't counted, only factory Ford Cars

SVT cobras were 100x cooler than the sn95 I's, but if you want to have the SVO as the coolest fox, then there are also 97-99 cobras with dohc, IRS. How's that not cooler than a pokey GT?
Also, just a reminder there is a one-off, 170 mph, gt40-powered '67 super snake in existence. As well as boss 429s and 302s. The 390 GT is ultra cool but, personally, they can't hold a candle to the 302s. I'd take one for both '69 and '70 as the coolest for both decades.

How's that not cooler than a pokey GT?
Because without boost the 2 valve Mod motor is a hilariously unfunny joke.

You said "coolest" therefore I have to disagree.
![]() 11/17/2014 at 15:13 |

NO. This is like a bad MTV movie remake of classic, say for example Footloose.
It isn't cool and didn't need to be made in the first place because the original was epic.

But it just looks so right & I can't stand fake side vents on mustangs behind the door (like on the cobra).

All svt cobras had dohc 4 valve heads. Plus, and I bet this will convince you they're much cooler than you give them credit for, they housed the legendary teksid block. Teksid was an Italian company that cast engine blocks for Ferrari, or so the story goes. Ford commissioned them to make the 4.6 for SVT cobras of that vintage ('96-'99) and the short block was apparently waaaaaay over engineered for the application. The cost of production was too high so subsequent cobras had less hardy (relatively) Windsor Aluminum Plant blocks. The teksid block is frequently sourced into drag racers as the aluminum alloy shortblock can handle upwards of 1500 hp!
I think it's a pretty cool and underrated car. I mean I realize it's more of a novelty since the engines probably don't have matching internals to handle that much more power and many cobras never reach anywhere near the full capabilities of the block; nevertheless, the name sounds cool, it's a cool platform for making a fast car, and there's a bit of a legend behind it (people still argue on forums which cars had it, how much boost it can take, etc). Plus the cars weren't half bad looking

What? How can you say Shelby and Saleen aren't included, when you include the GT500? SVO, SVT, and Shelby are all just as "factory" as the other. That's why their all sold with warranties. At dealerships.
Secondly, no Cobra R has ever been recalled for underpower claims. That was the 99 Cobra, which was legitimately do to Ford rushing the production of the DOHC 4.6. Not sure where you're getting the info that a Cobra R was ever recalled.
Third, this had nothing to do with their owners. As someone who seems to visitor Oppo frequently, I'd expect you to know more than anyone that the sum of a car can never be calculated by it's undesired owners. Every car can have some stereotype owner associated, but that doesn't mean anything in regards to the quality of car. This is a list of cool mustang, not what cars have the least pretentious owner's.

Even the N/A 4V motors are nothing special. The Mod motor is poor, by design due to bore/stroke ratio and rod/stroke ratio.
Without boost, ALL mod motors are jokes compared to their contemporaries.

My list, my rules.
Quality was not the metric, "Cool" was the metric, as measured by me. therefore the list stands.

You say joke but my 3V has a lot going for it. Greatest iteration of the engine if you ask me. But you're right in that they're best when boosted. That's why I'll be supercharging mine in the spring; it's been begging me since I got it.
I still don't know why you think a plain old 5.0 GT is cooler than a fox body cobra?
![]() 11/17/2014 at 16:13 |

Because of the corporate commitment to keep the car enthusiast based. Not to make it a good looking FWD beige mobile. When you think about the mission statement of the mustang in 64, it was a cheap, cool car for kids. The Mustang could have easily become a front wheel drive competitor to the Eclipse or Dodge Avenger. Instead Ford listened and made a decision to keep the mustang its enthusiast vehicle, RWD and 'merican. And that, even for a Base V6, or lowly GT is cool.
![]() 11/17/2014 at 16:19 |

This may be a more unpopular opinion but I'd say '00 Cobra R over the Cobra.
![]() 11/17/2014 at 16:20 |

good enough reason for me. I wouldn't be in a GT if it didn't carry on the muscle car mantra of powerful engine in a cheap ass body so broke schmucks can afford it.

I love the cobra R but its more racecar than cool car. the only people who own them are nerds.

That's kind of what makes it appeal to me, but for the purposes of your list here, I get what you're saying.
