After Jerry Seinfeld's adventures with a Ferrari Daytona, thought I would post this story my wife wrote about our recent trip to France in my Daytona for Petrolicious. It also includes a breakdown, although this was only a stuck starter motor.....
I have just returned from a quick weekend in France with my husband and his mistress. I know what you must be thinking, but I do rather like her. Although she's loud (and I hate her perfume), she's undoubtedly beautiful (stunning really) and being with her inevitably makes us the centre of attention–whether we want it or not. She is the key to invitations to all manner of interesting events. People want to see her. They want to know her. When she's around, they always come up to talk about her and how lovely/excellent/awesome/expensive/powerful she looks. I don't mind. I just smile. I just get frustrated when she decides to be, let's say, moody. My husband once joked that she was nearly as temperamental as me but who are we kidding? She's definitely got me beat and if she's feeling testy, no one is happy. Although, for the most part, she's a load of fun and since she used to be my father-in-law's, she really is part of the family.
At this point I suppose should explain that The Mistress is my husband's red 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona. You may know of her as she's a bit of a minor celebrity. My husband is well and truly besotted and she's often the central focus on blogs and in articles he writes about their adventures together. I don't mind his infatuation. As I said, she's often the reason we get invited to some really exceptional events. Last weekend we travelled down for the Journées d'Automne (Autumn Days) 2014 taking place in the Champagne region of France. Beautiful medieval villages, suave French people, pastoral landscape, and copious amounts of bubbly (after the driving of course) all were the icing on the cake of a weekend filled with other lovely/awesome/excellent/expensive/powerful cars.

This is awesome.
My wife refers to my 68 Mercury Montego MX as my "Redheaded Girlfriend"
Mistress seems more appropriate for a Ferrari though

While Mrs McMike and I were watching it last night, I was trying to diagnose it.
Right side bank was missing and backfiring, and I was thinking, "One distributor per bank.. Probably ignition related, since fuel issues usually don't pop up like that and only effect one side"
How close was I?
Edit - LOL pretty close. I just read your post on the front page.
By the way the right hand exhaust was backfiring it looked to be a issue with the right cylinder bank. US spec Daytonas use two distributors, one for each cylinder bank and also a very early electronic ignition system (called a Dinoplex) one for each bank. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a issue with either the distributor or Dinoplex on the right bank? That's a pure guess though and nothing like that has ever happened to my euro spec version (single distributor no Dinoplex).

You could be right US spec Daytonas (and that was one) have a distributor per bank, although Euro one's use a single distributor. It could also be a problem with the Dinoplex electronic ignition (grey boxes on each side of engine at the front). They were the very first electronic ignition systems on road cars and again only fitted to the US cars for emissions reasons. They are notoriously cranky and quite a few Daytonas have had them replaced with MSD or Crane Cam electronic ignition units.
Edit replied as you edited :-)

Ha! Fantastic...
My wife has "caught" me a few times with my girl, alone, late at night.

Your wife wrote that? Tell her I said good job. I enjoyed the hell out of that article. Very good read. Excellent car by the way she is stunning.

Thank you, I will tell her. She's actually a professional writer (she works in the TV industry), and is working on a fiction novel at the moment, but that was her first foray into writing anything about cars.

That explains why the article was so good! I wish her the best of luck and hope to see her writing more!

Also if Petrolicious lets you doing a video for their youtube page would be cool. Could be very entertaining. Just a thought

That might yet happen although not before summer 2015 as the UK weather means the Daytona is hibernating until next March for now.

Our diagnosis was correct :-). According to a post on Ferrarichat it was a cracked rotor in the right hand distributor. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/14352606…
