Kinja'd!!!

Once upon a time, this was enough to buy a brand new car. Take that down to the dealership today and they'll just laugh.

I admire how British ads so often quoted the top speed.

The price difference is impressive between the T16 and GTI! That's like £78,000 today.

7,145 pounds in 1984 US Dollars: $9288

$9288 1984 USD to 2014 USD: $21278

Cost of a 2014 Peugeot 208 GTI: 18900 Pounds or $29589!

So I'd say that we had it pretty good back then, comparatively.

Agreed. An added bonus is that, while the 208 is great, the 205 is an icon. Very few (if any) relatively cheap when new cars are as fun to drive as the 205 GTI.
