Something I deal with literally on a daily basis. See how my Z is parked? I have to park it as far over to the left (while still being able to get out) as possible. My door opens directly into that bush. I have to park like this because soccer moms in their huge ass Yukons, Escalades, Sequoias and whatever else CANNOT PARK PROPERLY.
And yes, that lady who parked next to me dinged my fender. It's nothing major, but god dammit I don't need anymore dings showing up on my car.
Just last week, I was parked in the same spot and my boss tried to back his car into the spot next to mine. He's old and a pretty poor driver and he came inches from caving in the front quarter of my car. I ran out the door yelling at him to stop and he slammed his brakes then apologized. He shimmied his way into the spot then flung his door open into my BRAND NEW DOORS. Left a pretty hefty ding and he didn't even offer an apology for doing so. Obviously I can't explode on him because I need a damn job, but he was so careless and that's what irritated me the most.
I should open a driving school for everybody in the area where I work and teach them how to drive/park their luxo-barge SUVs properly. I'd make a killing.
Sorry for the rant, but I'm sick of careless people showing a blatant disregard for my cars.

The worst part is that they probably all have backup cameras that line them up with the spot but they just laugh and say "fuck it."

Should park further away.

Can you park even further to the side if you don't back in, or does that just make it harder to get out?
![]() 11/13/2014 at 16:08 |

I could park closer to the left and pull straight in, but the parking lot of where I work is connected to the parking lot of an extremely popular restaurant. Backing out beyond risky and I've seen numerous fender benders in this lot. It's far safer to pull straight out.

You're probably right!

I HATE PEOPLE LIKE THIS!
There are times I wish I drove something like some old truck or van with bullbars and the like. Inch up to those people and let them see how they get in! On a somewhat related note, I almost got run off the road by a guy in a in a brand new VW van doing some distracting stuff (due to the height difference I couldn't see what exactly) last week. I wished I could have just let the obvious happen and have him deal with the fender bender. The only way to teach them.

I can see the muffler is still there.

The whole parking lot is insanely busy and I like to keep an eye on my car. People in this area have been known to simply open my car doors and help themselves to looking around the inside. Happened with my Baja Bug and it's happened two or three times with the Z. I saw a guy open my passenger side door and start to climb in. Immediately ran outside to bring hell down on this guy and he says "Oh hey is this yours?? My friend had one in college!" "Sir. I don't give a fuck. Get the hell out of my car."

I'm not making excuses for people but, this is why I lock my doors.

Haha I know man, it's still there for the time being! I forgot that my friend borrowed my grinder so I couldn't lob it off last night. It won't slip off anymore either because of all the rust! I attacked it with a dead blow hammer and nearly a whole can of PB blaster but it just wouldn't budge.

Haha ya I know. Doors do lock, but they need work. I'm afraid that if I lock them, they won't open again haha I've been to lazy to fix them.

I have yet to get my car dinged …. I'm a very polite person, but I might lose my shit if that happens, esp. from carelessness.
Like go to their house with axe and just stick it through the siding. I'll be like "oops".

The downside is that new cars tend to be insured rather generously. They won't 'feel' it.

I love it when I'm in my MR2 because it's so banged up already, that I troll people who park like this by not giving them room to get in.

Why not park way back over here?
![]() 11/13/2014 at 16:44 |

If it's too big for you to drive right, don't buy it. Thats what I say.
If my 5'4" mom can park my dad's lifted Silverado in a spot fine, the rich mommy's in their Yukon Denalis can too.
![]() 11/13/2014 at 16:47 |

There's no excuse other than that these people are careless to an immeasurable degree. They simply don't care.
Like you, my mom drove her '99 Suburban for ten years and never had a problem parking it.
![]() 11/13/2014 at 16:48 |

That's actually one of the busiest aisles (if that's what you want to call it haha) of this lot. Too risky to park there. And I need to keep an eye on my car. From where I am sitting right now, I've got a clear view of it.
![]() 11/13/2014 at 16:48 |

You definitely have my sympathy. The commodity vehicles of choice here are poorly driven Subarus, rich sociopaths in Audis, and tons of pointless giant SUVs (no, they are not ranchers or contractors). I've noticed in my Z, as you can see in your photo, that the roof of the S30 is nearly always below window line of the grocery freighters, let alone the long straight 6 hood. They couldn't see even if they were looking. I don't what the excuse is when they "don't see" my bright red pickup, but I believe "phone" would cover most of the occasions. Too bad there's not an empty corner you can use in that lot.
![]() 11/13/2014 at 16:52 |

Oh trust me, the amount of times I've been cut off on Lindbergh getting onto 40 by some person in their Range Rover on the phone is immeasurable. Especially because I'm in my junker van that couldn't possibly look more out of place. "GET OUT OF THE WAY POOR PERSON, IM BETTER THAN YOU." I imagine is what theyre thinking.

Have you tried peeing on their door handles? Or into their vents on the front below their windsheild?

Ah, makes sense. I'd do the same.

The other day I stopped by the liquor store and parked at the last spot in a row. Not another car for 4 spots away. I come back and someone has literally parked 12 inches away from my passenger side door, with no car for another 2 spots down. My son was with me as we're killing time before picking my wife up from the train, and that's the side his car seat was on. I let him crawl in the other side and had to squeeeze on in, trying not to dent her door with mine, while i buckled him in. As I was finishing up and heading to the drivers side, the lady comes up and says "I should probably wait until you pull foward ... I guess I parked a little close". Those moments you just want to throttle someone for being such a shitty parker / driver it's incredible.
![]() 11/13/2014 at 16:58 |
|
Haha that's unbelievable! Just no excuse for behavior like that.
A few months back I went up to a gas station with my brother so he could get a soda. Some lady parked just like that Yukon in my lead photo. I was in my Subaru and squeeeeeeeezed into the spot next to her. Literally not six inches between our cars. She came out while I was waiting in the car and proceeded to go off on me for parking so close to her. I politely informed her that she parked like an idiot and she would have to wait for me to exit the spot to get into her car. Needless to say, she made a scene!

Good point! Stopping, waiting for the police, having to deal with the insurance and getting an appointment at a VW shop would have at least spoiled his day, instead of just shrugging it off. I know that it is flawed, but let me have my little fantasy.

Off topic question: is it really odd to reply to a (German) ad by email rather than telephone? I've emailed two people this week, and neither responded. In one I merely asked if I can view the car next Friday, no hard questions at all.

To be honest, I have no idea! My reasoning is that if they list a way of contacting them, use it. That's why I cold called that swiss guy.
![]() 11/13/2014 at 19:02 |

Side Note: UMSL Drivers are the worst! I always try to find corner spots just so there is only a chance to get hit on 1 side of my car. I will always park far away rather than squeeze into a spot by a huge SUV. The worst feeling is coming out to your car and not being able to see it behind a massive mom van knowing that they had to touch your car getting out of there's.
![]() 11/13/2014 at 19:11 |
|
So...this person was thoughtful enough to back into a spot, but still couldn't care to make sure they were fitting within the lines? WTF???
Solution is to have a car you don't care about to have for general use, and troll people like this by parking as close to their car as possible while still being in your spot. Soccer mom can find in through the passenger seat.
![]() 11/13/2014 at 19:21 |

Oh god don't get me started on UMSL drivers haha
I always park in the same garage and grab the same spot nearly every day. Bottom level in a corner where I know my car is safe!

Can't blame you for being upset! I, for some reason, have a large sized truck attraction. As in I either, by accident, park my car next to a large truck or a large truck parks next to me.

The way I park is pretty much d best.
I am moses and I am parting the beige seas.

Haha it gets too busy over there! That's probably the worst spot to park. Super high traffic area and everyone parks crooked.

Reminds me of my old job. They had "eco" spaces for small cars because they could fit in more spots, for civics, minis etc. Anyway 90% of the assholes still couldn't understand that the spots were 1' narrower, so they would spend 30+ seconds trying to squeeze their suburban, Ram whatever and be on both lines, than to park int he normal spots and walk 40 more feet.

![]() 11/14/2014 at 10:06 |

There is just no excuse for this, and that is the worst. Like others pointed out, these cars ALL have backup cameras. If you can't back into a spot with that, you shouldn't be driving, period. Or valet everywhere. Not being able to parallel park is one thing. Not being able to park straight up is just dumb, unnecessary, and speaks to you not giving a shit about others.
Instead of those rubber strips, put some spikey strips on your door and see how close people like to come!
