We in the U.S. don't get the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , because life is awful and everything sucks. But not so long ago, we did get Audi's fastest sedan, and the streets of America were a nicer sounding, more grippy place. This car, designated the C5 by Audi (which isn't confusing a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , was available in the U.S for just one year. It came nicely outfitted with at 444hp twin-turbo 4.2 V8, which also cranked out nearly 430 lbs/ft of torque. This was enough to send the period E39 M5 running for mommy as the RS6 blasted to 60 in four and a half seconds, and thought the limit kicks in at 155mph, removing the limiter will send you closer to 200mph than you might be comfortable with. While not as dynamic and drift-happy as the RWD M5, Audi's Tiptronic auto and Quattro AWD make for a more useable car that is fast in the real world, under all conditions. This example boasts a menacing black paint job with dark grey wheels to boot, and a feature I like but I'm sue many of you won't: a white leather interior. It also has just 53,000 miles on the odometer, which means you hopefully still have some time before the engine implodes and ends all of humanity. With a price tag of just $23,000 this RS6 seems a bargain. But would you, the known enthusiast of all things RWD and manual, cough up such a sum for and AWD auto box? I know I would.
(Hat tip to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for correcting some of my factual errors!)

Automatically crack pipe because VW electrics.

I should say that personally, I've had no issues with said electronics.

Obviously, but in period correct wheels.

Obviously what?

I have yet to have an issue *knock on wood* with my C5 A6 electrics. Though, i;ve heard some things lol. But that is the same with every single car ever made

Yup. Now I just need to find $23,000... Someone buy my Jeep! Giving up a clutch is worth it. And I have no issues with AWD.

Cough up such a sum for the RS6. I would.

Oh ok.
I personally like these wheels, but getting the old ones back would be easy.

WANT.
But it needs the correct wheels.

I think they look great, but I have this thing with OEM modern wheels in older cars. I can't stand seeing older VAG cars with Passat CC wheels or older Porsches with Turbo wheels.
They never look right for me.

Nice price! But would I buy one? NOPE. E39 M5 for me, please!

I like both.

I am with you. I am a career VW guy (on my 5th, two MkIIs, one MkIII and two MkIVs) and I have not had any serious electrical problems. By serious I mean left me stranded. I have said it before and I will say it again. If Alfa were still around making cars with the level of problems that VWs have had over the past 20 years, people would be cheering from the rooftops about their relative reliability.

"This car, designated the C5 by Audi (which isn't confusing at all),'
your sentence is confusing since all of these Audis were built on the C5 chassis so it wasn't designated "C5" that is simply the chassis code, similar to E30 or 39
AllRoad
A6
Both C5s
![]() 11/12/2014 at 13:40 |

But those are all the C5 A6, or some variant of. Everyone knows an Allroad is an A6 avant. I meant that this generation of Audi A6 platform was designated the C5.
I more meant the fact that the C5 Corvette existed at the same time.

Never had an issue with the electrics in either of my Audis.

You didn't make that very clear since you never mentioned the Vette at all.

Let me remedy that.

Nope. These things don't feel nearly as fast as the numbers suggest, and are big, heavy sleds. An E39 M5 will wipe the floor with them in every way but traction. Very comfortable, and the interior is a nice place to be, but not worth the trouble. Just find a 4.2 V8 S6 & have most of the same experience, trading a little power for less headaches (the S6's 340hp feels like it, the RS6's 450, not so much). Maybe good for a rich German banker to do 150 through Darmstadt, but as a used car? 4-ringed regret. They are the best looking of the C6 chassis though, in my opinion.

the C4 chassis existed along side the C4 Vette as well as C6 and now C7. i don't think anyone would confuse the two.

I've just always found it funny that in a world where everything is a trademark lawsuit waiting to happen, these two still use the same designations.

$23000 plus the cost to correct this atrocity? In a heartbeat!
![]() 11/12/2014 at 14:48 |

I did not see this coming, but apparently both the RS6 and the M5 (2003) run an 8:20 around the 'Ring. I cannot confirm that this is 1005 accurate, but it's what I found.

Audis from this Period are SO well styled. They have excellent proportions and would have it in a heartbeat. Even more than the E93!

I'm not surprised at all. I'll bet the RS6 gaps the M5 on corner exit, and maybe a bit during the sustained high speed sections, and probably for only 1 lap at that, because they'll heat soak something fierce. The M5 is a hilarious hooligan car, sideways on demand, but the throttle response, steering & brakes are so good that RS6 feels like you're calling the engine room & steering with a rudder by comparison.
