Looks like with the ever-shrinking grid, Bernie decided to suggest that the minnows could bring modified GP2 cars instead. Ironically enough, GP2 cars have been faster than some of the backmarkers at times this year, so Caterham might have done better if this was proposed last year. There are some really interesting quotes here from Fernley and Kaltenborn. It's looking more like the conspiracy to kill the minnows might be real.

It's a good thing constraint to five constructor/five manufacturer teams isn't highly artificial or anything.
Seeing your screen name on the post, however, made me think: stop messing with the car formulas, stop messing with the teams, and introduce some more tracks. DIRT TRACKS. Yeah, I know they'd have to raise their aero and suspensions, but... okay. You got me. I am, in fact, trying to turn F1 into Group B.

No, the backmarkers haven't been slower than the GP2. they haven't even been slower than the LMP1-H cars

GP2 started the season around the same pace as Caterham and at times faster, especially around the tighter circuits. At the higher speed circuits, the power of the F1 engines give them the advantage, but it's not as far off as you'd think.

Formula Dirt would be awesome.

I'd rather them just reintroduce customer cars then do the MotoGP thing where totally different formulas are running during a sprint race.

The biggest problem with F1 this year is this whole "sealed engine" ruling. The idea that after a certain date that powerplants must be sealed and no further development or changes can be made, goes against everything that F1 is supposed to stand for IMHO. This is the ruling that has me enjoying GP2 more than F1 this year.
