I am here to boast!!! Today is Remembrance Day in Canada where we remember our war dead. This year due to two soldiers being killed on home soil by politically motivated nuts, it was a particularly poignant holiday. I got the honour of bugling the calls The Last Post and the Rouse at a ceremony in a suburb of Ottawa called Nepean.

Although I was nervous beforehand, I really nailed it and played my calls loud and true. The President of the Local Legion, and the Master of Ceremonies both congratulated me on my playing as did quite a few bystanders afterwards. It was really great to be able to do something nice for the Veterans.

I am very proud of myself & my city. There were a lot more people at the ceremony in Nepean this year, probably about 400 or 500. There was a lot more downtown too.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We will remember them."

Congratulations! I would have liked to have heard them.

"Loud and true..."

The only way to play the trumpet. Good job.

Very nice. I can tell you that your neighbors to the South were horrified at the recent attacks in Ottawa. Especially since they were squarely aimed at guys in uniform.

Good job sir. I just got back from an overnight Windsor road-trip. I wanted to be in Canada for Armistice Day, as you folks do it so much better than we do.

If I'm still around in 1918 I think a trip to England is in order.

Thanks! I have heard from various people over the years that Canada really does do armistice day well.

Were you in the armed forces?

Yep, the Army and the Ohio National Guard and I was in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia for the first go round.

I was fortunate enough to be in Toronto a few years ago on 11/11 and was shocked how serious you folks up north take it. It's a damn joke here.

Oh ok. I remember talking to you last year I think. You were in the mall and they said that there was going to be a minute of silence and you could have heard a pin drop.

I am glad you like it up here, I am really glad Canada takes it's war deaths seriously, I (being an expert in all things haha) think it's very important.

God Bless & thanks for your service.

Yep, that was me. And I agree, it is incredibly important to take the sacrifices of our vets seriously. I wish my country did.

Just to give you an example: I make it a point to wear a poppy on my work uniform about two weeks before 11/11 and at least once per work day I have to explain to someone what it means. I got to Windsor last night and couldn't find some one not wearing a poppy.

I'm fortunate to live as close as I do to Canada, but I'm going to have to start saving now for the trip to England for 11/11/18.

And as to thanking me for my service, you're very welcome but I always feel a bit weird when someone says that. I spend two glorious years in Europe that I would have paid for. Then I went to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and was never issued a live round. I drank Kool-Aid, ate Pop Tarts and got a great tan.

Well I am glad you decided to make the change you want to see by honouring the vets properly with a poppy and so forth.

Glad your time in the army wasn't too strenuous.

Cheers!
