Yikes. Here's a photo from Friday's oops at Edmonton. An Air Canada Q400 blew a tire on takeoff departing Calgary, flew on to Edmonton for an emergency landing only to have the right main gear collapse after touchdown. The prop hit the ground and threw a blade which went through the cabin wall, narrowly missing a passenger.
Buy a lottery ticket, lady..

Yup. I love the Q400 - hard not to with 5,000shp per side. With the type's history of landing gear issues, I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner.

I thought the SAS landing gear issues were due to the operator not following Bombardier's maintenance procedure, and they had to buy a shitload of new Q400 in compensation.

I vaguely recall something about corrosion on the uplock/downlock mechanism causing the gear issues. Might have been a maintenance guideline not being followed.

That was the official line, no doubt grinding through the courts. Common denominator though was cold weather. Odd for a plane built in Canada but there you go.
