My father requested a D-SLR for his birthday. This from a man who still doesn't know how to send an text, use a PC, or operate 3/4 of the functions on his point and shoot camera.

Wait, wait, wait.... you forgot the part where a soccer mom takes photos of her friend's kids and decides she's now a "maternity" photographer or "candid-style family" photographer. Or, she shoots her kid's pop warner games and suddenly, "sports photographer" is added to the list. Or the guy who is a "fashion" photographer and hangs out at all the bars handing out homemade business cards to women as they come out of the restroom. Or the faux art photographer who thinks Dutch tilts are avante garde, along with lens flare. And all of these people get introduced to you, or introduce themselves to you with utter seriousness.
Yeah... this just might hit a little too close to home, lol.

Oh man! so right, my GF's Brother in law just bought a DSLR and hasn't a clue how to use it, all his photos are awful. I'm no pro but I can get better results with a Fuji compact.
