Spoilers after the reply.
Fuck. This. Shit . As a Gordan fan, and a fan of racing, this is just bullshit. You have the potential for a series champion that over the course of 25 races hasnt won a single time and has only got a top 5 finish 4 times.
And how he gets in? He wrecks a rookie on the final turn of the final lap because his car sucked and couldnt pass him straight up.

while I don't like seeing Gordon knocked out of the chase, I hope Newman wins the championship so nascar can redo this stupid chase again. They have tried pushing wins so much that its shaping up to have the first ever champion without a win. I laugh at the irony nascar has caused.

Boiled down to that extent all racing is pretty damn boring.
HE'S MAKING A LEFT TURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE'S MAKING A RIGHT TURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE'S MAKING THE SAME LEFT TURN AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I honestly never really watched racing much, a little Nascar when I was a kid. But not much else.

The number of times NASCAR has changed how the points work over that past 10 or so years shows just how desperate and confused they are IMHO

Hell racing in general.
Nascar is bleeding viewers, F1 can barely support it self. Rallying is struggling, drift is small market, and nobody even bothers to watch the smaller series.

I'm mad to! He got second and this happens. Everything was completely out of his control! Larson just couldn't hold it. Not to mention what happened last week didn't help. Well, at least the race was won fairly, no one spun anyone out on purpose. This week that is.

This is probably my bias chiming in, but I don't think rally is struggling any more than they have at any other point in the past 10-15 years, and may even be improving. They've gained two new manufacturers, with a third about to jump in and as many as three more watching. And rumor has it the subscription numbers from WRC+ have been better than expected. But I do agree that motorsports as a whole isn't where it used to be.

I wish they would just go back to what it was. No chase. The best driver is the most consistent.

I only watched the last 30 laps. I thought it was great. I look forward to next week.
The same rules that applied to Newman applied to Gordon. NASCAR laid them out at the beginning of the season. Gordon is one of my favorite drivers, so I am disappointed, but there are plenty of other good drivers that already got eliminated.
Next week at Homestead is going to be great.

I mean Gordon had two options.
1. Blatantly wreck the shit Harvick in the 2ish second window that anyone was able to be even close to him.
2. Drop 10 spots back in the field wreck Newman, then get those 10 spots back within 10 or so laps.
Neither of those work. Like at all.

The bottom line is Keselowski put him in too deep a hole last week. I don't think we've seen the last of the retribution.

Racing was only ever a big-profits business for a couple series (NASCAR, F1) for about 25 years in between the advent of dedicated sports coverage (mid-late 70s) and the rise of the Internet. The history of racing is either a. competing on a shoestring, b. living and dying by whether you get sponsor/manufacturer money, or c. a money suck for rich people who are bored with the casinos. So is the future of racing. The only problem are the people in charge who are seeing their cash cows wither and die, and selling out to everything within sight. Which, you know, you'd just as readily see from a struggling track promoter in 1963, but the bigger they are, the more embarrassingly they fall.

But that would mean that NASCAR would have to be a real motorsport series again instead of a de-evolved 200 MPH demolition derby/WWE mash up. Racing cars doesn't get the ratings that carnage and manufactured drama does.
