These came with 1JZ over seas so unless it's int he US i'm inclined to think it's that.

I love those things, but I'd have to keep the naturally aspirated L6 purely because I can drive around sounding like a 2000GT.

How is it badge engineering? It looks like that generation Celica, but it's pretty different.

I was mostly kidding. Everywhere else it's a Celica XX, and it's pretty different, but not vastly so. I'll reply to you with a picture from a Japanese toyota catalog in the Celica Supra book I have where the XX is compared with the other variants. I'd think of it as a FWD B5 A4 V6 vs Passat kind of badge engineering.
