I don't care how well done the mods are, or that it has a Shelby badge. That's $1500 of nice price, and $3300 of crack pipe.
Don't buy other people's projects, especially if they're early Chrysler turbos. I should know, I left parts of mine scattered down the Mass Pike.

Probably the handsomest of those Shelby cars I like for no particular reason, other than turbo 80's box. Mostly I'm thinkin where the f#ck do I buy those rally light brackets!? 2 years I've been looking I don't want to wait for someone to fab them, just drill them on so I can skip through the parking lot to my car because it has rallye lights

There's something odd about the "assigned VIN".
As far as I know alll of the Shelby cars left the assembly line intact and ready to run. Shelby only modified the cars. They never assembled them.

I'm going to disagree and say full nice price for sure. Cage and logbook alone make it worth at least $3,000, and the name Doug Shepherd is worth $500. Add in the rest of the car, and those spare tires (easily worth at least $200 each), and $4,800 is more than fair. Near as I can tell all it should need to be race ready is new belts, some roll bar padding, and a refresh of the fire system, so this is just about the cheapest entrance into rally you can find.

This one was built as a rally car from the get go.

Doood checkout the other cars in his stable....An unmolested 240sx with 80k, a mint looking '87 5 series manual, mk4 manual Jetta tdi WAGON, '91 Mercedes 300dsl turbo diesel, and finally a big red Eddie Bauer ed. Turbo diesel Excursion

It still would have had a Dodge vin.
For the money it's a deal. But, without Shelby documentation I wouldn't buy it as a real CSX. It just looks like a well built P body.

This is Doug Shepherd bio:
Doug Shepherd is no stranger to rally accumulating 35 years of National Championship rallying experience!
Doug has amassed several US and North American Championships as a co-driver for legendary US rally driver, John Buffum, before switching to the driver-side. Doug has succeded in wining several Production Class and Group 5 National Championships in various front-wheel-drive Dodges.
Doug has won 4 Woodner Cups in the past and most recently won the 2008 Max Attack! Series Championship for 2-wheel-drive.
Finally, Doug has worked over 30 years as an automotive engineer and executive with Chrysler, with chassis engineering and vehicle dynamics focus.
Doug is an absolute badass and one of the best car builders the U.S. has ever seen. He was the man behind the AWD Eagle Talon/Mitsubishi Eclipse factory cars and the 400 horsepower factory SRT Neons. The fact that he (presumably) built this car means absolutely nothing was half-assed and the car was designed to win .
As to it's actual pedigree, I dove into the old rally records to see if I could find the car. Good news is I found it, bad news is I can't say for sure if Doug himself ever raced it (and by extension I can't 100% verify he built it, though he was the go-to guy for Chrysler rally cars, so odds are still strong this was one of his builds). I do know it was raced by a driver named John Daubenmier, (it's his name on the car in the photos) though again I have trouble firmly establishing what events it ran. Here's what I did find:
1988:
•Doug ran four events in a Dodge Shadow, earning four class wins and two overall podiums. Could theoretically be this car, or it could be another Shepherd car (I know there is a blue Shepherd-built Shadow out there, and possibly a red one as well).
•John Daubenmier ran one event in a "Dodge Shelby," then did three in a Dodge Omni. The Shelby could be this car, or it could be a Shelby Daytona.
1989: John's back, doing four events in a "Dodge Shelby." At this point I'm mostly convinced it's our car.
1990: Here's where I know for sure it's our car. John's now listed in a "Dodge Shelby CSX." So we can say for sure it's not a Daytona. He does two events.
1991: Two more events in the Shelby for John.
1992: Just one event. STPR
1993: John and the Shelby disappear
1997: A Dodge Shelby CSX piloted by Don Taylor appears at STPR.
1998: Don. STPR. Beginning of a pattern?
2001: After disappearing for three years Don and the Shelby return to STPR.
2006: David Dennis rallied a "1988 Dodge Shadow CSX" at the Team O'Neil Rally. Safe bet that's our car.
So at least 13 events, maybe 17. Less than 25 since it's on it's original logbook.

It has the right bodywork in the logbook photos
