Yesterday i made a post about my cube doing some weird shit, getting no power at all and bing unresponsive intermittently. Confirmed my worst fear when it happened last night. Transmission is failing. Or rather, some solenoid in the trans is failing. Going to the dealership after work. Its supposed to be under a 10 year/100k mile warranty but i recall this dealer saying that that wen away since i wasnt the original owner. Nissans site says it transfers between owners. Well see. Hopefully they fix what needs fixing and thats it.

UPDATE: Leaving the Cube with the dealership after my class since it has to be warmed up before the problem starts anyway. Service Dept. manager seemed pretty concerned though.

Update 2: Got it back from the dealer. They said to go back to the K&N air filter, engine may not be getting enough air with the shorter filter. Seems REALLY odd if that's the case, why would shifting into another gear and back to drive fix it? Weird.

I shoulda bought a Mazda 2.

Final Update: old K&N filter is back on. Car is much more responsive again, not lacking power and my original issue still isnt occuring. Weird that a filter alone can fuck up a car so badly.

If it is a factory warranty then it should transfer between owners as long as the car still has a clean title, I think. If the dealer gives you crap, I'd raise hell.

If the dealership denies it, go to another dealership and ask them to check the warranty on the car for you. Then complain to Nissan North America for the dealership that refused.

Is it the CVT? Those were extended to 10 years 120k for everyone due poor design causing them to overheat and going into failsafe (limp). Warranty follows the vehicle.

If they feel the need to give me trouble, I'll give Nissan USA a call. That should resolve everything.

It is a CVT, though that's not the same issue I'm having. According to Nissans site, warranty follows the vehicle. When I asked the service rep a few months ago, he claimed it followed the owner. But I wasn't having issues back then and doubted that I ever would.

unless you have specific TCM codes, it doesn't mean the trans is going bad. The diag seems way to odd in my years of car repair. Something is off here. But if throttle input, load, andmany other factors are not right, i suppose it can cause those symptoms. I just find it odd. Wondering why they didn't take ATF samples or do a TCM reload. If i can only see the codes that came up upon initial diag

Which filter did you put on it before?

What kind of transmission do you have?

Define: "Unresponsive" for me please.

When is the last time you changed the fuel filter?

I had a K&N filter, changed for a shorter filter from pepboys. Back to the K&N filter now.

CVT trans

Unresponsive meaning nothing happened. I could floor the accelerator and have no revs, no power.

I'm gonna say it hasn't been changed. Car only has 32k miles.

Was it a Spectre filter? Those shorter filters only work alright in ram air for tight spaces or really low-power applications. The regular sized ones are great, though. Yours is a bigger car; it needs air. Smaller, shorter filters are usually for coupes or sedans if anything.

I'm thinking that shifting into another gear making the problem go away has something to do with your computer and some kind of combustion math or safety mechanism.

Proposed solution: Remove the filter entirely and run water/meth injection while laughing maniacally.
