Five liters and a blower, that's 1.2 Liters less than Dodge, and it makes more power. Jesus. Fucking. Christ. the horsepower wars have just begun people.
Also, I wanna bring up a point... about 2 years ago, when the BRZ/FR-S hit the market, /DRIVE did a segment, in which they speculated the end of high-hp monsters, and a return to simpler, lighter, less powerful cars. I feel that the hellcats, and this rebut that argument wonderfully.

We'll see if they sell in a high enough volume to justify being made. These aren't cheap cars.

I'd still take the Hellcat. Fact is this is this is still an aftermarket kit without factory support.

I know but honestly? I'd rather blow $85,000 nonexistent USD on a 725HP mustang than $400,000 on a 695hp Lamborghini

Casually waits for the inevitable 800 horsepower Camaro to put Ford and Dodge back in their places.

I'll let the dyno's talk. So far, there has been a Hellcat to dyno at over 800. Dodge's numbers are a bit conservative.

...ok I want to see that video. a stock hellcat dynoed at over 800RWHP?

I'm giddy with excitement, this thing is fucking mental. BURNOUT ALL THE THINGS!

You mean my 900 HP dual superchargeer Z/28 doesn't count? (YouTube comments mode)
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:37 |

Is this a factory option? The whole reason why the Hellcat was a big deal is because it had batshit insane power right out of the factory doors. If this is just a tuning company that isn't going to put a nice big warranty and have adequate OEM support, then this car isn't quite as impressive.

Confirmed from Chrysler. 707 is just a number lol. http://blog.caranddriver.com/2015-dodge-cha…

Video or it didn't happen.

725 sounds like an estimation to me, but yes, the horsepower wars are well alive.

Right?

Holy fresh shit that's a mean looking machine. I am now torn between this and a Charger hellcat as a theoretical goal. Probably this because it likely handles better.
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:40 |
|
I'd rather blow it on something that isn't a Charger or Mustang. I mean, I'm sure that they're really good, but what else do they do better than other cars for the same money other than burnouts?
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:42 |
|
They unofficially tested it to 825hp, but it didn't meet emissions requirements at that level. It doesn't have that from the factory. Testing an engine outside of it's production specs is common.
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:42 |

Or the same amount of money on a 650hp Corvette
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:44 |

I'd venture to guess that this (presumably $85K) Mustang will easily be able to take on an M3/M4, Lexus RC-F, and any other super-sports car you want to throw at it. sure it doesn't have all the electronic gizmos, but a proper driver would be hard pressed to drive with those on anyway
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:44 |

I don't believe that one bit, even for a Jalop article. and it was even speculated it was a test engine.
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:45 |

This is an aftermarket tuner, like Hennessey or any of the others. Don't mistake it as a factory option just because they partner with some Ford dealers.
But yeah, great time to be a car guy... As long as the robots (and legislators) don't take it out of our hands - literally - in the next decade or so.
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:45 |

ok, the vette's a pretty good deal, since it is a corvette. not to sound like an american fanboy, but yeah :)

Ahh there it is, the comment I knew would show up. Looks like its not just Jalopnik with stupid people.
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:46 |

hopefully not! if they try to I'm stockpiling old MG's, and putting coyote 5.0's in them, and pulling a "convoy" type scenario to boycott autonomous cars
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:46 |

Now we just need those 6 mpg numbers again!

This thing is SO COOL

says the guy whose crotch rocket has a power to weight ratio 3X grater than the mustang's....
I love bikers and biking, but I can't stand the eons who feel like they own the road
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:49 |

It's a tuner car. When it comes off the assembly line like that with a Ford warranty, I'll be impressed.

It should also be said that the King Cobra, which is essentially a bolt on car (supercharged 600HP, extra parts added to the IRS to make it stronger) ran a 10.97 on slicks. The Hellcat ran a 10.8 on slicks. Except that was an automatic and the Mustang was a manual. So assuming the RTR is built right, it'll be very, very quick. It's a stock to modded argument so it isn't completely fair, but still an interesting comparison.
Also it looks like Roush is offering a 777HP package!

I know, but this is promising....

JESUS. ok the horsepower wars are just beginning....
Let's just wait and see how underrated the Z06 turns out to be...
and where's the 600+ HP Camaro???
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:55 |

Even if, that proves it is easily tune-able to over 800. RTR is basically an aftermarket deal anyway. Also, adding a supercharger to the already heavy Mustang will have it closing in on 2 tons, I'll take the Hellcat's extra 400 lbs for more useable interior space.
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:56 |
|
Yes, but that means that it'll make that pretty easily with a little tuning. The RTR is an aftermarket deal anyway.
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:57 |

It's going to be hard to beat the Corvette on a track
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:58 |

oh believe me, I know....
I'm just waiting to see what the ZR1 has in store this time around. 808hp, just to fuck with Chrysler?
![]() 11/04/2014 at 21:06 |

Probably not until the next generation. It's pretty exciting to see. I find it funny Hennessy surpassed Hellcat's 707 number with 717 and now Roush is with 777. All Boeing jets to!
![]() 11/04/2014 at 21:10 |

I'll take the RTR cause I like chineese trannys.
![]() 11/04/2014 at 21:20 |

as a seattelite, I want 747Hp....
![]() 11/04/2014 at 21:22 |

You don't believe a Hellcat was tested to 825hp by Chrysler but wouldn't pass emissions at that power level? What's unbelievable about that?
![]() 11/04/2014 at 21:24 |
|
According to Matt Farrah(sp?), the Challenger Hellcat handles the twisties as well as a 4C. It just doesn't feel like it does.
![]() 11/04/2014 at 21:26 |
|
I'd rather spend 60K on a 707hp Challenger than $85K that would only get me 18 more hp. Something you wouldn't even notice, 2.5% more.
![]() 11/04/2014 at 23:52 |

there is like 0 proof. unless i see a pic of the engine and the chart.....
![]() 11/05/2014 at 01:51 |

No kidding. I drive cars with well over 600hp all the time, in rain, on shitty streets. They're a handful, even if you do know how to drive them, but I haven't killed anyone yet. Bad drivers kill people, not high powered cars.
Just realised I sound like an NRA commercial.

no that's the production engine not the fuel emission one
![]() 11/05/2014 at 11:01 |
|
It's the same engine...
You do realize a tune doesn't physically change an engine, do you? Well, unless the tune is shitty an puts a window in the block, but that's besides the point. What are you expecting to see different? Do you think manufacturers not test their engines to higher power levels?
![]() 11/05/2014 at 11:20 |
|
My issue is that could of been using experimental parts to make it go that high not a tune. I know tunes don't change an engine physically but the fact there is no image of the engine means it might not even exist and they are trying to make it kind of a "clickbait" thing
