About a year ago, I signed up for a parking spot for $50 / month which is a steal for Seattle. Over time, it slowly went up to $85 / month and I just kept paying.
But today it jumped to $180 / month. Plus Seattle's nice 25% parking tax, that comes to $225 / month.
Public transport comes to about $110 / month, so maybe I'll have to be a bus rider again.

An interest-only mortgage on that would cost about $1800-1900 per month...

$300 a month for my building. I just use free street parking instead.

Sheeeeeeit. I was racing to get my fam on a ferry once and wanting to park nearby (on a Seahawks game day) and parking on the water was going to be about that much , so I drove onto the ferry instead, ZFG. Limited supply, limited space, it doesn't surprise me.

That's my other option, but free street parking doesn't start until 9am, and I'm already at work for 2 hours by then. It requires "creative" solutions to find a spot for those 2 hours, but it's not impossible. Better or worse than the bus? We'll see.

Yeah, game day parking is insane. It's the idea of paying to go to work that chafes me. The upside is that I had way more interesting stories when I rode the bus. Don't know how familiar you are with the bus routes around here, but I rode the 357 for about a year and that seriously re-calibrated my weird-shit-o-meter.

That sucks. I used to not be able to afford parking either.

the parking garage across from my apt in NYC is $440/mo for a compact car. There is a 3 month waiting list. It isn't open 24 hours. All three of these statements illustrate why NYC parking is absolutely ridiculous. I park on the street - which costs me between 1 and 3 hours of my life per week and approximately $400-500 in parking tickets a year.

That's terrible. It's nice to know there's always someplace worse.
