So like I stated earlier I need to sell my BRZ due to financial reasons, and now I'm stuck between two choices as far as a replacement car goes. The first is an 03 WRX, but I was watching The Office and was reminded of the Saab 9-2x aero. The issue I'm having is tracking down the exact specs of the Saab some sources say it has a 2.0 turbo and others say it has the 2.5, as a preference I'd like to have the 2.0. can anyone confirm what engine it has.

Aero = EJ20 Turbo
Linear or 2.5 model came with EJ25 n/a.
right? anyone else can back me up here?

WRX v. Saab - both seem to be maintenance nightmares. Any chance of a Civic R, or a Fit, or something reliable for a year or two?

cool thanks, now its just a matter of tracking one down near enough to me with a manual

I edited that like 3 times because I couldn't remember if the Linear model also came with a EJ20, but it turns out it was definitely just the EJ253 n/a

The Saab is actually a Subaru. The EJ20 Subaru's aren't that bad, on the reliability side at least.

as other said, aero is 2.0, 2.5i is...well, 2.5"

As long as you can get the car serviced for a reasonable price by a dealer (or independent shop that can get the parts) that still exists, go for it.

I'm not OP, but I would consider one if I was in the market for a cheap daily driver.

needs to be AWD, and I've had 4 Subarus so far and have done everything from minor maintenance to a full drive train swap, so I'm not afraid of any issues that may pop up.

If you can do all that, you are fearless - buy an Outback that has gone to the moon (240K BTW) and make it live again.

Correct.

You're not even afraid of having to change the spark plugs?

The 2005 9-2X Aero had the 2.0 turbo, while the 2006 9-2X Aero had the 2.5 turbo. Both the 2005 9-2X Linear and 2006 9-2X 2.5i had the naturally aspirated 2.5.

It changed by year, not trim level. So '05 Aero and Linear have EJ20, (Aero has tubro); then in '06 it was EJ25 for both (Aero has turbo again)

"Both seem to be maintenance nightmares." Yes except the WRX and the 9-2x are exactly the same. There are MAYBE 100 parts that are different between the two

Maintenance nightmares? They are both Subarus and get pretty much the same maintenance schedule as any other Japanese car. Regular oil changes and timing belt at around 100k miles. They're also very easy to wrench on. I did a turbo swap on my WRX in my driveway with hand tools.

Edmunds and KBB disagree with you. All that changed in 2006 was the trim name.

I stand corrected. The most complicated thing I've done lately is a showerhead. Oh, and a child latch to keep one of the cats out of the cleaning supplies.

Well Edmunds and Kelly are obviously the most reliable sources of info and we should follow their advice without thinking for ourselves

So far more reliable than you. Got evidence they came with the na ej20 from factory?
