That's not the prettiest car ever built, dumbass.

Please.
When it comes to beautiful cars, nothing tops the lovely Prius.

While I do love the 8C 2900B Touring Spider, I actually prefer the 8C 2900B MM.

And it looks incredibly uncomfortable to drive.

As I imagine a billiards table on a van chassis would be.
![]() 11/03/2014 at 21:16 |

The MM is gorgeous, but that V-shaped bumper on the Spider just makes me drool.

What about this?

The seating position is incredible.

There is another Multipla somewhere in the comments, albeit a nicer one.

There needs to be a hot tub in the back.

Eh...
Side note: Yes, that is purple leather. No, it does not currently have purple leather seats. I can verify this as fact seeing as I've been in this exact car. They (it? Bench seat) are(is) now brown, and even more beautiful.

Yes, and it needs to tow a Riva

True. Yours is definitely the more elegant of the two. However, I'd be happy with either one.
Also, it seems like cars from the '30s are just timeless. They just never seem to age.
Speaking of timeless cars, this one still looks fantastic even after all this time:

God that looks incredible, but I won't give up on the V shaped bumper on the Spider Touring.

That other one isn't nearly this pretty /s

The shape, few cars have that incredible flow/silhouette.
Like the 450S prototype.
![]() 11/03/2014 at 21:43 |

Oh don't even get me started on the 450S. It is by far my favorite vehicle ever manufactured. However, I prefer the '56 450S Roadster Fantuzzi to the Prototype from the same year because it doesn't have that silly intake under the grill.
![]() 11/03/2014 at 21:50 |

I love the Fantuzzi but that headrest just looks out of place for me. One of my favorite vehicles ever manufactured is the Espada, I dream of driving one, out of every single car on the planet, I want to drive an Espada.

Given the choice between the two I would probably have to jump off a bridge. Because it would be too hard!
Mmm dat Ferrari

True. It would be a difficult decision.

Very well done. Knowing how you like BMWs, I knew you would like this.

very nice collection
Does one person on all those cars?
I know the most about BMWs because I am the most familiar with them. The majority of cars that I've owned have been BMWs. It's funny how the first car that gets handed down to you affects your future purchases. My dad handed me down a 1984 E30 318i manual in the mid 90s. It had a ton of miles on it but ran great. It was slow but handled like a go kart. I kept buying more 3ers after that.

Yes, it's a friend's garage.
That's awesome. You should have kept it so that you could have handed it down to your kids.

Very nice garage
I know, I wish I had kept it. I didn't know how much I would have wished that I did. I always wish I still had it.

It definitely was.
Oh well. You still might be able to in the future.
I found this and thought of you. It would match your current car.

Wow that's actually not a terrible price! It has about 13K miles on it. I know track miles create more wear than street miles. But still not bad. I once saw a regular 458 on eBay for $115K that has 100K miles on it. Found out about it through FChat. Someone noticed it and people did research and found that the car had been a track rental its whole life. It didn't end up selling.
![]() 11/06/2014 at 01:14 |
|
It does have 13,000 miles but I've heard the Challenge cars aren't that different from the regular cars, at least engine wise. Therefore, it should be fine as long as proper maintenance is done on it.
Interesting. I wonder how long modern Ferraris can go before they need a rebuild.
![]() 11/06/2014 at 01:46 |
|
I don't know if this is true but some people on FChat say that the F430 Challenge is cheaper to track than the 458 race car. A lot of people are saying that the 458 Challenge uses the same DCT as the street car, and it can't handle heavy track use like the old single clutch F1 box could. Apparently the 458 Challenge cars have been prone to premature transmission failure.
Good question on how long the modern engines can go before they need a rebuild, especially if there are a lot of track miles. Most people say that the F430 and 458 engines are both pretty solid and can go a while before a rebuild, as long as they were properly maintained. The biggest risk with any used Ferrari is that the owner kept it as a garage queen and didn't bother warming the car up on the weekends before revving the crap out of the engine.
![]() 11/06/2014 at 18:28 |
|
Interesting but it makes since. For instance, I've heard that the SLS and 458 use the same transmission but AMG has them tune if for reliability while Ferrari has them tune if for faster shift times. If true, I could see how the 458 Challenge would be less reliable.
Well, I feel like that is a risk with any sports car. Engines need time to properly warm up before being fully exercised.
![]() 11/06/2014 at 20:42 |
|
I wonder if the SLS Black will have issues since it has the faster DCT tune.
That is definitely a risk with all sports cars. The reason it's so bad with Ferrari's is because so many Ferrari owners are worried about putting miles on their car. The average Ferrari changes hands 3 times before the warranty is up. So those first 3 owners don't care if their hurt the car. They just care about how much it depreciates. They only drive the car 20 miles a week max and want to maximize the enjoyment of those miles so they drive hard as soon as they leave the house.
It's very sad. The cars should be enjoyed. And more of them need to be held long term. You care about the car a lot more if you have no plans on selling it anytime soon.
![]() 11/06/2014 at 21:25 |
|
I wonder as well.
While true for some owners, I wouldn't say that that is the prevailing mindset. Most people that collect cars and use them rarely don't "beat" on them in the few times that they do drive them. In fact, it's actually the opposite from my experience. The ones who rarely drive their vehicles actually take better care of their cars than the ones who frequently drive them. Also, the ones who buy their Ferraris new don't think about depreciation. They understand that it will lose value whether they drive it daily or leave it in the garage for months on end. For most, it's the fact that they have the car and can enjoy it whenever they want to that matters most.
This also can go both ways. For a while, I went through DDs quite frequently and didn't own a car for more than 2 years max. Did that mean that I didn't care about them, no. It just meant that I only have a finite amount of time on this earth and unless the car was truly special, I was going to trade it in for something new and different.

Maybe it's just the cars that my Dad and I have looked at or purchased that changed hands so much, haha. Every time we look at the Carfax of a Ferrari it had 3-4 owners in the first 4-5 years of ownership. And most of the owners didn't put more than a few thousand miles, some only put about 1000! Why would you pay all that sales tax and then only drive the car 1000 miles? Even if you bought it a year old and sold it a year later for almost the same price you'd still be out the sales tax. You'd be better off renting one from an exotic car rental place a few times a year. The sales tax alone on a 1 year old 458 Spider would be well over $20K.
Oh and I agree not everyone who sells a car after a year or two abuses it. The scary thing though is that there is no way to know if the owner bothered to warm the car up before they drove it hard. I've read that the earlier dry sump Ferraris were especially sensitive to being driven hard when cold. The Testarossa apparently needs to warm up a full 20 minutes before you really flog it.

Interesting. Well, I'm just speaking from what I know about my friends but maybe we're just boring old men. Also, maybe those owners are like me and wanted to experience new cars.
That is definitely a valid concern. I guess really all you can do is have a professional do a PPI on it and hope for the best.
