I really had no idea this had been experimented with back in the day.

Supposedly was for better aero and driver comfort but some binned it because the windscreen vibrated too much at speed, detracting from their visibility.

That first image looks like Brabham or Hulme, second image looks like it's a BRM car, though it's likely the first two images are both Brabham cars. Pretty neat stuff.
