Always assume everyone else is trying to hit you.

In this case two aircraft that are landing on parallel runways and get a little too close for comfort when one pilot decides to side step and land on the longer runway. Lower traffic has the right of way when landing, and at an airport without a control tower, pilots are to announce their position and intentions over the common radio frequency.

Arriving and departing an airport is similar to entering and exiting a parking lot. If everyone stays on their side of the road, follow the arrows and don't go the wrong way everything flows smoothly. In this case, someone neglected proper procedure.

So I'm guessing the pilot in the lead plane never saw the other guy? Or never looked?

That's correct. Probably both.
