Something seems fishy though. That's very cheap for a running vehicle with less than three million miles.

It's funny how people sell their car when the A/C breaks.

NP, but yeah it could be a rat. Those things mask mechanical issues for a long time, especially suspension issues. And I have never seen one get 36mpg with an auto. Speaking of which I wonder why he says 4matic.

ALSO on those you need to check the head castings. 14 is bad, will crack or probably is cracked already, need to replace with a later cylinder head to make it last.

Yeah, I'm not exactly an expert on these, in fact I've never even set foot in a German vehicle period, let alone a 27 year old diesel Mercedes.

I got all you need to know about them. If you are seriously interested I will help you out as much as I can. Nice color, needs a little interior work there, but all day nice price if it runs

^Very true. My 242's a/c doesn't work, and it basically can't be driven from August until October. (in FL)

Honestly, if its still around after I've paid rent/credit card/etc in a few days, I'm interested enough to go see it. I've gotten the point where I've realized I have to sell my Panther, and if this could last me a couple of years without murdering my bank account it would make my life a lot easier.

A/C compressor not coming on and fan not operating sounds to me kind of like a climate control module failure, not any of the more common "the A/C doesn't work right" issues. Unless it's a short/fuse. When the climate module on my dad's W124 4MATIC lost its shit, it spent some of its time blowing hot, and I think the replacement junk part died outright. One of the weak links.

Agreed on the MPG. Mine, with its advanced age and likely fucky turbo and injector pump struggles to get 27 or so.

Between you, me, and TFritch, anybody buying a W124 is in the best of hands here... whatever that means.

yeah I have seen a 2.5 crack 30 a few times with an auto if you keep your foot out of it and the injection pump is clean and times. Yeah easy enough to test the compressor and figure out if it works. usually a solid system besides for the auto control heads (another reason I want to bring one from overseas)

We're fortunate in having a '78 and a '79 W123 with the pre-climate control A/C mix controls. FUCK YOU, ELECTRONICS

I was looking at buying a 77 or 78 230TE with cloth, a 4 speed and manual a/c and heat a few years back in Chicago. It was fairly gorgeous but had 450K on it which is why I didn't jump. White with blue cloth, a tiny bit of arch rust. Shoulda done it

Our '79 (which is a stick 240D) has a serious oil consumption/blowby issue. So much so that we made a new bigger ventilation line for the valve cover to keep it from popping oil through the valve cover gasket. Very poor compression on one cylinder which we thought a valve job would fix... nope, looks like rings. The '78 is an auto 240D which has had the engine out in the midst of rebuild for some years - back burner project. Neither with atrocious miles on the body, but the '79 has some pan rust.

If I had 750, I would buy it to drive it til it dies. Also, I saw your Note's twin this morning.

I see quite a few Notes around here, but most of them are SVs and not pearl white like mine. I have my hubcaps off and the Save the Manuals sticker in the back window to distinguish myself haha.
