A friend of mine give this picture earlier today. Looks like a nice-looking Datsun Go right? Now let's look underneath.
Oh Crap. -5/10 would drive. And keep in mind it's a June 2014 car.
Oh man. Let's hope Nissan/Datsun do anything about this.

"Japanese built quality"

(Something something YES, I know that this thing was made in [India])

That hasn't gone well.

I've seen worse on similar priced cars. Surface rust on a large cast part wont become a problem for a few years.

In India!

Well, people keep saying that they don't build them like they used to...

Hate to break it here, but that is 100% normal for brand new cast iron. Within a year it will make the dark brown surface rust like you are used to seeing.

Here's a new Peugeot 107 as an example.

just paint over it and you'd never know ;)

Unpainted steering knuckles are pretty common. The cast iron is going to look like that. It looks like salt spray all over the other stuff though.

Yeah, but i kinda thinks it's pretty quick.

You Aya I'm really happy for you and I'ma let you finish but those parts are supposed to rust.

But.. Not as quick since it's like summer everyday in here.

If it's like summer then I would guess it's also humid. Exposed cast iron like that will definitely rust that quick.

As Drakkon mentioned, it's perfectly normal and will not progress beyond the surface rust you see very quickly. It's very unlikely that it will corrode to a point where it needs to be worried about within the life of the car.

you ever looked at brake rotors after a rain storm and sitting for a day? perfectly normal and ok

It's normal to be that quick, especially you live in a humid environment.

Yup. See also brake discs on cars that sit.
