I can feel it is almost time to get a new vehicle, the Sonoma is getting higher in the kilometre count and stuff is starting to go wrong. That means it is likely time to start looking at new vehicles. I should be excited at the prospect of adding a new rig, but the excitement is quickly dashed by the thought of losing the Sonoma.

I have a double garage that is basically all I have for parking. The girlfriend has a Mazda 2 that takes up one side along with a couple of bikes and mower while my Sonoma takes up the other side along with a work bench. So if I get a new vehicle one of them has to go.

Now !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! as my next vehicle and a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! will make paying for it a lot easier, but I just cannot shake the fact that the Sonoma will have to go for a Canyon/Colorado to come.

The Sonoma was my first truck I got when I was 17. I worked a lot of hours at a shop in order to pay back my dad for it. That shop helped me to fall in love with vehicles, they became big puzzles to me, everything needed to work together to make it run the way it was supposed to. It was not a normal shop that works on Corolla's and Grand Caravan's, they service mine service trucks and all sorts of other big equipment. I did my oil changes there and learned to do brakes or change coolant with whichever mechanic was willing to spend his own free time teaching me the ropes. I will be forever grateful to that dirt, dusty, and chaotic shop as it taught me vehicles and gave me the tools to really understand my truck.

Kinja'd!!!

My truck has become a lot of the person I am today. I can't drive through my home town without everyone giving me a wave because they know it is Scott in his yellow Sonoma and that is something I will miss. That truck has taken to graduation of high school and university and has took me through every ol' mudhole and creek crossing out to the cabin or to my favourite fishing hole. It has never died on me other than the times I left the tunes going way to long into the night and I huddled into the passenger seat wrapped in a sleeping bag.

Kinja'd!!!

I know I can't keep her forever but I know losing her will be one of the hardest things I will ever do. I have spent a lot of my life looking out over that yellow hood. In the words of Dierks Bentley: "I hold on."

If its paid off why not just keep outside as a project vehicle? Mud truck? V8 swap muscle truck?

Also get that new new in Yellow.

I know the feeling. I refuse to move on from my first truck even with 260,000 miles on the clock. She will be getting a new engine in the next 6 months. Probably a waste of money but who cares. I'm too sentimental.

man, I know that feel. Letting go of my first car was tough too. For me it was easier because a deer killed it and i was forced to sell it to a salvage title company. you will never forget a car like this, but its good to move on to new memories and stories.

Same except my first car was killed by someone from Quebec turning left in a F150 directly in its path.

So the people who use to make NV4500 adapters are no longer making them due to a shortage of machining capabilities. I don't really like the idea of mating the 21 year old Toyo trans with a 6BT. So what I'm leaning towards is a lightly used LS LQ9 with a built GM 4 speed auto behind it.

thats a solid option. not as cool as a 6bt or some other mod, but more mileage and more power are good things. are there 4l80e adapters for the stock transfer case or will you need to go part time?

No option to park it outside somewhere?

There are adapters for the 4l80e . The other option is going with a FJ60 T-case because there are adapaters on the market for the NV4500 tranmission to this transfer case. However, that seems like an awful lot of stuff to change out and keeping her auto simplifies stuff and is more budget friendly.

I would love an HF151 or NV4500, but the work to convert an 80 is enormous. the 4l80e is solid. We were pushing almost 600 ft-lbs though one and it never missed a beat.

Yeah need to decide if it's worth it to go with a 4l80 or a built 4l60. I still need to do some research. The good news is these transmissions are both really cheap.

go with the 80, for the symmetry and the idea of a corvette transmission in your 80.

I refuse to let mine go. It has 180k-ish miles(odo is broken), it gets 12 mpg, it takes years to get to speed, it has 2 working speakers out of 10 in it, I know somewhere down the road the head gaskets will go again, it isn't pretty, but I know I can't let it go. It has been my source of joy in difficult times, it has gotten me where I need to go almost every time, it has treated me right when I have abused it to no end, and it never fails to make me laugh like an idiot when I want it to. If there is any way to keep yours, I would.

Only about 111,XXX miles but lots of those are Canadian winter miles which beat on the truck pretty heavily.

On the street ya but it is frowned upon, people usually park there if they are guests or something similar.

I got rid of my 04 S10 Blazer at 102k miles. They weren't even that hard, but man it was a different sensor or something every month, couldn't do it anymore.

I LOVE THE NEW CANYON/COLORADO

they'll be great for you if you can afford them.

Do you need the Sonoma for a trade in or are you going to keep it? You could always lift it and make it a fun off roader

I would likely keep it as my dad has always wanted it for a run around truck but even then it would be 4 hours away.

The new Canyon/Colorado are pretty cool, I think the price will be crazy on them for the first year though.

Yea I don't know what the markup for Canada will be.

Have you built one on the US site yet to get a feel for it?

Usually is about 20% more sticker price.

Ya I have but those build things are always way off from the actual price we see. Also had to stop because it made me want one too bad.

Haha, it wouldn't effect the name.

I drive an 07 Mercury Milan as my Daily Driver, so it would be a replacement DD.

Especially since it gets almost as good of mpg as the Milan. My Milan V6 is rated at 27mpg hwy but I also have the ability to pull a trailer with a Canyon. 1 mpg to gain a drastic increase in functionality seems like its worth it

probably won't happen for at least another 2-3 years.

Which is fine because I can get one back off lease lol

I swear lease deals are cheap as shit on trucks because they know there will ALWAYS be someone to buy them once they are turned in.

1 they got the issues out, it's a brand new vehicle the first year might have a couple bumps

2 I can't afford brand new lol

I want to get a diesel but I really don't want a first year GM motor.

I also can't afford brand new, though you get awesome deals buying new as I found out shopping for my moms new Sierra
