Ok, not really. But if Porsche were to build a stripped down, basic 911 like this (and as we know, stripping down a Porsche means adding $10,000 for every oz removed), wouldn't it cost more than a GT3 RS?

It would. Then, if you wanted to option it to the gills, it would cost more than a 918

That picture bugs me. That's not where the split-line is!

Stripped out 911 MSRP: $320,000.
Stripped out 991 with painted bumpers and alloy wheels: $1.3 mil

Those steel wheels would add weight, so theoretically the price should drop.

Every base 911 comes with a free 918 Hybrid.

This is such bullshit - Lamborghini, Porsche, Ferrari - they decontent the car, put some stickers on it (FAST! LIGHT!) and maybe up the horsepower a bit and stiffen the suspension, and charge $50 grand more. Imagine if Porsche just did a stripped 911 with the base engine, cloth seats, a 5 speed from the parts bin, steel wheels - hell, crank windows even. No GPS, 4 speaker stereo, RWD, but leave in the safety features, and sell it for $59 grand. But that's crazy talk! Why would they make something ordinary people (who saved a lot) could buy and enjoy?

Issue is, they are making so much money and people spending so much money that they can do it.

I read somewhere that, on a per vehicle basis, Porsche is the most profitable carmaker. Period. I suppose you're right - I have my answer.

I want Porsche to do a RWD hatch/shooting brake that costs 40K

There will come a time, in the near future, when every 911 is in the six figures. Hell, it may have already happened.

A bit off topic, but how cool would it for Porsche to build something that looked like that one above (unpainted bumpers, cheaper plastic trim), with a completely striped interior, manual transmission and a GT3 engine!? I mean, with Porsche's logic it would cost 500k, but still...

I doubt its possible to find one at the dealership for less than 100k

Because Porsche buyers want something 'ordinary people' can't get their hands on, and VAG knows it, which is why the cheapest 911 will never not approach six figures.

Apparently a stock 911 is nearly 84 grand now. Probably without floormats.
