Agree with Clarkson - the laziest design studio in the world ... but I admit that they've improved it nearly every time they've (slightly) changed it. I'd go for a manual Targa w/ AWD if I had the scratch.

Laziest, I call it, "it's so good why bother changing something that's already perfect?" ;)
![]() 10/26/2014 at 13:28 |

It's not perfect otherwise they wouldn't change anything between generations.

But they change so little on the outside and inside, what they've done over the past 51 years I'd barely call change, but simply improving what's already been done. Yes, I'm differentiating change and improvement, bite me.

You change something to improve it, so...

And at this point, you clearly didn't read what I said, so bite me.

Targa 4S - just under $125K with Bose - could not figure out how to add ceramic brakes w/ configurator (probably what, another 8 grand?) but I would want them. I'd have to drive an R8 to compare, but this is mighty tempting, and very nice in that blue.

"Well, we started with ze motor in ze wrong spot, but instead of just fixing it, we will just keep engineering around ze problem."

They never admitted the early cars were a handful (and I drove a mid-90s 911 that was) but they've carefully engineered the crap out of it to the point that it's some people's DD.

Then why do the best Porsches have the motor between the axles?

Is everyone out just to get on my nerves today...

I'd DD an older 911 if I wasn't in Michigan. I've DD'd my dad's '74 for a week, it wasn't too bad, it was a lot of work, but the driving characteristics and fun made up for it.

Did they really make a purple 993? What an odd color choice for a Porsche.

I've driven in the winter in WI and MI (drove to Mayo to see a sick pal) - you people just get one with it. Where I grew up (DC/MD) an inch of snow is a national emergency. But yeah - even a modern 911 2WD would be a handful in the show.

Interesting! Never knew that! Arena Red would still probably be my favorite, but that purple is cool in an obscure sort of way.

What was the first generation to have PASM as an option?
I love PASM. I wish I had it. I think any 911 that's going to be a DD should have PASM.
I noticed something yesterday. I had read about it but hearing it in person made me believe what I read. The pre-DFI water cooled engines sound better than the DFI engines.
I saw a 997.1 C4S yesterday. It sounded SO damn good for a water cooled 911 that isn't a GT3 or GT3 RS. I think the 997.1 C2S and C4S might be the best overall deals right now. They've already depreciated a lot. They sound amazing. The outside looks almost as good as the 997.2 cars (it's just the lights that are different). You can get a nice 997.1 car for less than a nice 993 right now. I don't see them going down much more than they already have.

Hnnnnnggg! The want for a 911 is growing uncontrollable. Damn you!

Very cool - thanks!
This diagram really sucks compared to all the rest (early attempt with computer graphics?). 991 isn't that great, either.

It's a 996, that may say something... ;P
