So I was reading an article which mentioned people who sell their car before it's time to get new tires for it.
This got me thinking about my car and how many sets of wheels and tires it's had.
2006, purchased in 2007 with 4,000 miles.
1. Stock tires, which were summer only high performance.
2. I then picked up a set of snows for winter use. Mounted on steelies.
2.1 Had to get one new snow tire due to it being vandalized at college. People suck.
3. Went to a set of all-seasons (on stock wheels) when I lived in a city where I could always take public transit if the roads were too bad. Sold set #2.
4. Went to a set of summer-only (on a second set of wheels). Used set #3 for winter use.
4.5 Needed two new tires of the #4 tire due to a unpachable nail and wanting to keep equal grip levels for track days.
5. Second set of summer-only on the second set of wheels.
6. Set of slicks mounted on another set of wheels for track use.
Is this a lot? Right now it just has the street wheels/tires and the track wheels/tires. The set #3 were sold since the car is garaged over winter now. It's at 64,000 miles.

You're doing better than me.
Car came with bald tires. Drove on them anyways, until I bought
Set #2: Winter tires (used).
Set #3 New summer tires those lasted two summers.
Set #4 new summer tires.
Set #5 Used winter tires
Now both set 4 and set 5 are used up gotta buy sets 6 and 7. I've had my car 4 years.

Huh, had mine 2 years, after a few months replaced the summer tires with all seasons, now needs new all seasons on the rear (Tail of the dragon and track day don't help, neither does being able to chirp the tires on 1-2 and 2-3 gear changes).

Cars I buy usually need new tires. The car I have now is the first time I had to buy tires twice for. Right now I have Dunlop tires with about 7k on them. They replaced Continentals that couldn't hold air, weren't actually round, and developed bad sidewall cracking well before 20k.

I've had mine two years, and I think I've only replaced the fronts, which were on the way out to start with.
My car weighs nothing, so the tyres wear out incredibly slowly, and only cost a pittance to replace; they're only six inches wide.

on my motortcycle I burn through a set every 8k KM
one my dads Audi, weve had it 4-5 years now, one 2 sets of tires (OEM and OEM snow package) we MAY need to change them out soon

Had crap tires when I bought it, burned through those.
Bought new tires.
Got in an accident, needed two new tires for front.
Accident bent rear axle, didn't notice until it was too late, new tires on rear.
Bought axle from junkyard, still was out of spec, two new rears, plus shims.
Axle is still freaking out of spec, slightly too much negative camber, will probably need 4 new in about 18 months or so.

Yeah, same here.
Set #4 were used for three summers of autox, track days and a Dragon road trip. Set #5 has seen two sessions at track days, when it was still too cold for the slicks but I wanted to get out there. I should be able to get at least 2 or 3 more summers out of this set, since I have the slicks for track use now.

Yeahhh, I run a 235/50/18. 8 or so inches wide.
The snows were smaller, I think they were 16s. It's been years since I had them.

155/70 R13 here. They're summer tyres; it's relatively rare for people to use either all-seasons or dedicated winter tyres in the UK.

I think the longest mine have lasted are three summers (with no winter use)... I might have a problem.

I'm really bad at buying cars that need tyres, then selling the car.
Car 1. Bought a set of tyres shortly after buying it due to some weird bulges.
Car 2. Bought a set shortly before crashing it. Could have got just 2 but I wanted a matching set.
Car 3. Bought a set just after buying it due to horrendous cracking. Sold it a year later.
Car 4. Bought a set right after buying it. Shoulda just got 2.
5. Bought a second hand set of wheels with some winter tyres.
6. Needed tyres when I bought it. I Bought tyres. Rest of car shat the bed.
7. Had some worn summer tyres, got some good all seasons.
So 7 sets of tyres, 6 new over 8 years. Two pairs of which were just so I could get matching sets. I am bad at this. :(

Better or worse? haha... I don't want to even think how much I've spent on the car just on tires...

I wish I had the income for a few sets of wheels and tires. Well, that and a way to get spare tires to the track.

I'm on my third set of tires in 8 years and 80k miles. Just got them in March too! Somehow I got the cheaper installed than I could doing it myself.

Here's how I do it... I had to play the slicks in the back seat game for one track day when my trailer wasn't finished yet, and it was horrible. You can't see it in this pic, but I also have a big tool box on the trailer in front of the wheels, so it's really nice for track days.

My '97 SHO, as best I can recall, came with Goodyear All Seasons. I generally replaced tires at 25K because I drove the car, shall we say, enthusiastically. I replaced the stock tires with Goodyear Eagles of some sort, which were just OK. I replaced those with Yokohamas of some sort - sport something. Bought a second set of them around 78K, got rid of the car just shy of 100K when I moved to NYC. My '87 300D I ran Contis and Pirellis once the standard Dunlops wore out. That's all I got.

You're doing better. I'm going to be on set 6 soon. I've owned my car 4 years.

I put a set of 17-year-old mud tires (unused, in remarkably good shape) on the XJ in March, so probably 10k miles on them.
....that reminds me I have to buy winter tires. Ugh.

I can't really do that haha. No room for a trailer hitch, I need a support vehicle or:

My '06 Sierra with 99k miles, is on set 3 and 4. I finally splurged for winter tires on steelies a few years ago. I'll never go without them again!

I think I've only ever bought new tire sets three times. Usually only keep my cars 1-2 years and buy them with decent tires.

i run summer tyres all year round , no need for winter tyres as we only get snow one day every 7 years approx. i get 60000km from them usually equiv to 2 years driving

I had a 2000 Plymouth Voyager minivan for 8 years.....needed new front tires every 8 to 9000 miles. Not the vans fault- I drove it like a rental.
Understeer is best :-)

I had to sell my car right *after* I got new tires for it. *sigh*
