I don't mean, technically, what an accomplishment this is, because I have a great respect for that. I mean tell me why this is the BMW that sparked you, beyond brand loyalty.

Well it wasn't technically brand loyalty because I had sworn off all BMWs since the mid-2000s. I still have no desire to buy anything else they make besides the i cars. I've got a garage full of conventional, big gas guzzling sports cars and have for years, I always liked the idea of a hybrid but wouldn't be caught dead in anything offered until now. You had a choice of either half-assed conversions of existing cars that barely improved any metric or dedicated hybrid designs that were applicances meant to move you from one place to another as boringly as possible. The i8 was the first hybrid to make me even consider a purchase. Not only the apparent attention to engineering details and the driving experience, but it looked like what I thought cars would look like in 2015 when I was a kid. It's really one of those, you have to drive it and then you will "get it." I had faith and they delivered.
