Just got off the phone with what is obviously a recording.

Kinja'd!!!

Something along the lines of "Hello, you just received a 1000 air mile dollars, press 1 to claim."

This is something I get a lot. sometimes up to 4 times a day, or not at all. It seems random, and it rotates what it's calling for, (one time I randomly got "your car's insurance may be expired"). I didn't give my cell number to any rewards programs or anything else, and this annoys me quite a bit, so I block offending numbers.

due to changes in FCC regulations going in effect October 2013, it is illegal to use a robodialer/autodialer and/or feed prerecorded information to a personal cell number unless the number's owner has given explicit permission to do so.

I got a robocall last week that went,

"This is Credit Card Account Services. You are eligible to lower your interest rate on your credit card. Please stay on the line to be connected with a representative."

I knew this was a scam, so I stayed on the line until I was connected to someone with a Filipino accent who started reading from a script about lowering my interest rate. I asked them which of my credit cards they were calling about. They said,

"Visa and Mastercard."

"Ok, well, those are types of credit cards. Which of MY accounts are you calling about? What bank?"

"Bank of America, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, Capital One...."

"I don't have accounts with any of those banks."

dude, I've just got one as well, I didn't know the number so of course I didn't answer, but the stinking thing left me a message.

All of this on my mobile phone which is supposed to not be legal...not that it seems to matter

I've been getting those "Caribbean Cruise Line" scam calls almost daily. They might not meet the exact legal definition of a scam, since if you pay fees and taxes, airfare, and sit through a time share presentation, you do technically get a free cruise, but that's scam enough for me.
