Hmmm. It's sucky but not as bad as I though. Mostly just scrapes and the nicks around the taillight. The black bumper strip is a little scraped up too. Anybody know what the best products/methods are to make the bumpers look black again and take out the scratches/fill in the nicks? I have some color matching BMW touch up paint in the glovebox that came with the car.

Same thing I just thought. For the paint some compound, polish, clay, wax and you should be in pretty good shape. For the bumper you might be able to get by with some clay and trim restorer with a sealant.

the spot closest to the taillamp might actually need some paint but that shouldn't be a problem. i'm not sure how effective those touch-up "pens" are (got one but haven't opened it yet, was gonna use it to fill up a long scratch after a kid fell beside our parked car and managed to inflict a long scratch on the door), but the local paintshop should have a small batch for the paint.

My luck with touch up pens with other people's cars have been mixed at best. You really have to prep the scratch which can be scarier than leaving the whole thing alone.

To prep it involves some light sanding along the scratch to make it as even as possible (which if done incorrectly makes the whole thing look way worse), followed by the touch up pen, clear coat and letting it cure then if necessary removing extra paint left behind by the pen.

If you skip all of that and just use the pen it looks sloppy and noticeable. It does an okay job but if you have finnicky paint it won't look all that good.

Clay it and see what happens. It'll look much better.

i see...in that case i think i won't be opening up that pen anymore. i have some color-matched urethane paint (which was for a 1/24 mini-me of the 1/1 version) and i'll just use that when the weather clears up and i'll paint up scratches.

hahaha i was so fixated on those pics, i didn't notice that the TS said he had paint already. *facepalm*
