You know what I love? These pumpkin spice gender neutral wheels!! They have been passed around quite a bit in a short amount of time!
I'm going to buy them and put them on my car because they are halloween-ish!
I hope that pleases the thin skinned people of this page.

Oh my god, youve been censored. I would never let that happen. I get that someone raised a ruckus, but stand by what you say. even if it pisses people off

Your car is black, correct? Therefore these wheels will look quite seasonal on your car.

Yay PG! But really I whole heartily agree that you should get them. A few years ago there was set of purple rims for sale on Michigan car site forever. Price kept dropping and dropping and I said fuck it and got new 17"rims with almost new rubber for $300.
You can always paint or plastidip them after halloween anyways.

If you put two P stickers on the side of your car, it would look like a huge, moving Oppo logo.

Not putting up with bullshit sexism isn't being thin skinned. But deleting a post then recreating it chock full of passive aggression and ad hominem insults certainly is, bruh.

ARE YOU SAYING MY FRIENDS HAVE BEEN PASSED AROUND QUITE A BIT IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME?!?
Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me.

These inanimate objects will feel much better now that they haven't been called mean names.
Thumbs up for progress.

It wasn't sexist until you made it sexist, please don't make me make a third post because I won't be as pleasant next time.

I don't have time to deal with thin skinned people. I'll admit I don't like censoring myself but I like to keep out of trouble here.

Just stopping through to say I call my male friends sluts, and not in an endearing way either.
You're giving a word a lot of power.

It was sexist because it was sexist. And oh no! A third post! You won't be nice! I'm scared!

Whore and slut are not gender specific, you just chose to make it gender specific so you could have something to rant about. I know more men who are whores than women.

This will also be probably the only comment on this post that won't turn into a shit storm lololol

You didnt cause the trouble, someone else did. Its not your responsibility to curb the, Albeit valid yet misdirected rage of other people.

You need to do it though

I'm not choosing to make those words gender specific insults. They ARE gender specific insults, by and large. That some people also apply them to men doesn't make their inherent sexism any less so.

* sigh *
It was awfully crass, sure, but are we really going to pretend like something that gets around a lot hasn't been inherently undesirable since the beginning of time? People tend to be cautious of anything that has an extensive history. A car that's had five owners? Might want to steer clear. What about a guy with five ex-wives? You'll probably want to do the same. Slut and whore are bad words because these aren't exactly qualities that anyone values in anyone. I'm not going to stand up and say that people can't use the word "dick," because people who act like dicks are dicks and the word exists for a reason.
Making people feel shitty by calling them cruel names is an awful thing to do. Calling somebody a slut—even if they are one—isn't right. But these wheels aren't people, and they don't have feelings. People curse at inanimate objects all the time in ways they would never dare refer to a human being.
Again, it's crass, and it's not something I would have said, but I don't see how he doesn't have the right to say it. And if you want to think that he's a dick for saying it, then that's your prerogative.

Free speech! America! And I'll be honest, slut is a word to describe a man or women that gets around. It's not like we can just erase the existence of sluts or the word slut.
Sluts gonna slut.

The difference between liberal rights activists and those crazy white right wingers, is with liberal activists, if you don't agree with them you shouldn't be heard. But they want to be heard at all costs.

The word is definitely used more towards women than men, but the behaviour it describes is universal. Right now, we just really don't have a word to describe men who act in a sexually promiscuous manner. There's man-whore, sure, but this is just an appropriation of a pre-existing term.
The argument has always been that there's a double standard, because women who are sexually promiscuous are looked down upon, while men who act sexually promiscuous are hailed as heroes. This is only half true, however. Many guys might congratulate a friend who has scored with two dozen women, but what do women think of this same man? Not much, I'll tell you that. The double standard occurs within genders, because men don't shame other men who are sexually promiscuous, but women shame other women who are sexually promiscuous. Women might not be as vocal about their disapproval of sexually promiscuous men, but the disapproving sentiment is certainly there. Why else would guys be hesitant to tell their girlfriend about their long and sordid sexual history?

I really don't look in to it that much. No need to overcomplicate my already busy and sometimes hectic life.

I only do because I spent a lot of time in college in women's and gender studies classes. It's a topic that I admittedly find genuinely interesting, but often not for the reasons that many feminists would like. Once you immerse yourself within a field, you are able to dissect the oft-repeated arguments and sort the truth from the bullshit. I like to hold the field accountable for what is said because it often seems that nobody else will. The words of feminists should be held up to scrutiny as much as anything else. If what is being spoken is true, then they should have nothing to worry about.

As others have already pointed out, Whore and Slut are definitely gender specific in context to their common usage in America and most other English speaking countries.
There are a great deal of other terms which can be used which wouldn't even raise an eyebrow. We do have many persons of varying genders who prefer that these terms not just be thrown around like they have no cultural significance or that these connotations are meaningless.
In the end, are these just words? Yes. But words are representations and documentation of reality. For the same reason that racial slurs are ugly, so are words used to denigrate any portion of society. These words aren't different than other socially unacceptable terms, they just happen to be more commonly used (which, IMO, is not a good thing).
You're free to disagree with people. And you're free to voice your opinions. But some opinions have backlashes, and some actions have consequences, all I would like to ask is for you to choose your battles and your words carefully.

That's your choice. I've said what I felt needed saying, and ultimately, we (as moderators) aren't looking to censor people in 99.9% of situations.

No, they really are. Any time a man is called a whore, it's always man-whore, to clarify.

See that's where I draw the line, while it is a non gender specific word, no human being... Scratch that no living thing deserves to be called names. That being said, I think it's kinda cute to call inanimate objects things. For instance, I name all my computers so that when they piss me off, I can yell at them by name.

I agree with this. While you probably shouldn't have posted this, you need to own up to it's and not alter your posts

Why are we still talking about this?
