Thanks for reminding me, Tiny Tanner.
It's like the Japanese Land Rover, it really was. Rough, but reliable, overbuilt (Because Pajero... look how many are still around in other countries being abused daily), yet quiet and comfortable.
When I worked as a Mits tech in the early 2000's we joked about them, but they were the nicest thing to ride around in... plus calibrating the onboard compass in the dirt lot next door (i.e. doing donuts) was fun.
They never broke. I'd be surprised to learn that Tanner broke his. I doubt he did, though, except for the overheating issue.

The son of one of my dad's friends had one that trashed its computer. My dad also had to get involved in parts-sourcing for some Pajeros that broke, and year-to-year parts changes within model made that a total bitch and a half. Not sold on them, sorry.
