Okay, here's a little game which will most likely just end in many of us posting delicious photos of our favorite cars.
Let's say the next car you buy, which is not any of the vehicles you have owned now or owned previously, you have to keep for 25 years. That's twenty-five. Many of you are still in high school, so you would still have this vehicle from graduation to beyond your 20-year reunion.
You might be starting a family, or moving across the country, the car has to go with you. You cannot get additional cars, however if you marry, your spouse is allowed one vehicle. So, if you pick a two seater like CR-Z, the kids will basically have to be strapped to the roof.
Lets keep the price <$40k, new or used.
I'd probably go with a late model Tacoma, because forever alone + capability + bulletproof reliability.

FX50S - reliable, practical, powerful, and fun. Pretty much perfect.

Wait 4 years, buy Charger Hellcat.

Because I know there will be new parts available for it, endless used parts, and tons and tons of aftermarket parts for decades to come.
Fuck kids.
The other option would be some sort of Muscle Van based off an LS-engined Chevy Express:
For similar reasons.

I want to be on the DINK track. You know: Dual Income No Kids.

That was easy...

Also good...

I DON'T LIKE YOUR RULES. but I'm technically NOT breaking them.
I pick a 4th gen Civic hatch. 40k should be enough to buy a clean one, and keep it running and looking great for 25 years. I have owned one, but this time I'll get an SI because sunroof. And it HAS to be teal!

New Canyon 4 door 4x4 All Terrain:
good mileage, enough room for the 1 kid I already have (and will probably have another) and plenty of capability.

i doubt they'll be under 50 in 4 years.

Both have over 400hp and both can fit actual people in the back, while keeping my "RWD coupe for life" promise to myself.

Mid 70's Chevrolet C10 long box fleetside or step side, full modern power train, modernized suspension, upgraded radio, and two tone blue paint in a factory style.

Used crew cab Raptor.

Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.
It would do anything I need from a vehicle for the next 25 years. It can haul kids around, it can play on the track, it can tow a trailer, it's good in the snow, you can stuff all sorts of things inside.
Other than gas mileage this really is to me the ideal vehicle.

ICON Derelict wagon.
Edit:
Shit it's gotta be under 50k. This probably isn't. Damn it. Uuuuh...
I dunno, a Suburban if I move to the States, with the rest of the cash upgrading it to be reliable and warm in the winter and rust-less...
And a Renault 4 if I live here. I's cheap, probably less than $1000 US, but I'll spend the remaining 49 grand in making the Renault 4 an ICON car, with a new chassis and suspension and trim and interior and engine and insulation and the lot. YES.

I don't like children, comfy, fast.

Chrysler 300c Hemi
Big enough to fit four comfortably, fast because Hemi, and look badass.
This is my answer until the 2015 Charger becomes available to build and price.

Someone else posted a 2015 Challenger scat pack that came to just under 40k, so I would assume you could get up to that trim in a Charger for the arbitrary limit I selected.

1961 Chevy Impala great looking 2 door car and a big back seat to make kids to put back there.

Already have it:

well, if my fzj80 is any indication, I would buy a uzj100 or 200 land cruiser and drive 20 years without breaking a sweat. Granted, who knows if I could afford the fuel or if there will be fuel to afford.

Crown Vic. Because it's one of the few cars proven to last for over two decades of daily driver duties. Also make it a Sport too.

Very true, here in FL where rust isn't an issue, I very often see 1992-1993 no-grille Crown Vics still kicking, some of them beat to hell, some of them look great, but they're running.
I have a 2007 Grand Marquis and when I ask people what maintenance do to ensure it lasts as long as possible (91k on it atm), they say "just drive it. it's a Panther".

4Runner Trail. It is plenty capability and has well known reliability to make it practical for the next 20 years.

I was gonna post an XJ Cherokee. But then I saw this.
![]() 10/22/2014 at 15:10 |

I just can't recommend an XJ. I know the 4.0 is bulletproof, but everything else might as well be made by Lucas. The chassis is weak, for anything more than mud puddles. If you get rear ended, it is automatically totaled.

I think the post assumes the vehicle own't be totaled... but anyway, I definitely see where you're coming from. If it weren't for winters and moving (trailers), I honestly would have posted a sedan with a Series II 3.8L.
