Here's one for all you old American iron fans. These were sent to me by my old college roommate. Back in school (late '80s), he had a jade green Monterey, not sure of the year, but it was probably very close to this one. I also think his was a four-door. We used to go for drives in the mountains of western Virginia, riding in style to the top of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . It was by no means a fast drive, but you roll down the windows and roll down the road, sweeping grandly around the mountain switchbacks. Definitely a different pace to life. Awesome car, and this one is gorgeous.

WOOO
MERCURY MUSCLE!!
I'd wager this one is a touch faster than your buddy's. Though the only thing I have to go by is the dual pipes.
Great looking car, and this definitely falls under MontegoManBait as it's a 60's Mercury!
Cool pics

I'm glad you appreciate body roll as much as me! In a car like this it really adds to the experience.

Definitely posted with you in mind. Glad you caught it, since my timed post was Kinja'd.
The only thing I remember about his exhaust was the hole in the pipe (don't remember if it was one or two under there) that he tried to fix with a soda can and some hose clamps. It just burned through the can. But it sounded awesome. I also seem to recall hanging the exhaust up with a bent coat hanger. He sold the car in '89, right after graduation.

Absolutely. With cars like this, I think there is a definite difference between driving and steering. It's almost like piloting a ship, where you have to turn the rudder before you really want to turn.

hhahahahahahaha
Nothing wrong with a little soda can fix!
At the least it was a V8, Monterrey's didn't come with 6's. In fact, they didn't even come with anything less than a big block. The 390 big block only had a 2 barrel which could be woken up real easy but was pretty slow for that size car in stock form

Hence the term land yacht!

Too bad America doesn't make drop top cars to cruise in anymore

I NEED ONE. RIGHT NOW.
This 2-door must be longer than my Panther. DAT TRUNK

That trunk would hold at least three dead hookers, or two dead mob hitmen.

Update: Heard back from my old roommate after I sent him the link to the DOTS post. This is what he said:
Nice DOTS story. Mine was Frost Green with a white top. Eventually put dual exhaust on with Royal Scott glass packs, sounded real nice.

And this is a shot of my friend's Monterey on top of Reddish Knob. Too bad it's not in color.

That's awesome.
I don't know of this "reddish knob" though...

It's one of the highest points in VA, deep in the heart of the George Washington National Forest. It's actually within spitting distance of West Virginia. It was a place where local kids used to hang out, tourists would come for the view, and those with brave hearts (or not enough brains) would race to the bottom, often for pink slips.
