I'm going to be checking out that '91 NA Miata that I posted earlier this week. The owner says the mechanicals are pretty much all up to snuff. However, the passenger's window doesn't work, the back window has cracked but comes with a replacement, no radio, and it has some rust in the quarters/rockers. Also, it's a slushbox with 170k on it.

What stuff should I be looking for when checking this car out, and what things are deal-breakers that I should know about?

Thanks in advance.

check if rubber parts have been replaced(hoses, belts, bushings). Check suspension and undercarriage for rust (bring a flashlight). Of course check coolant for oil. Drive it.

This is the go to list.

It's a 1200 dollar car so stuff's going to be wrong. Make sure the jackwell in the trunk isn't rotten and there's no major leaks.

Next step, depending on how much you want to invest:

BTW, in my experience replacing the rear window only on an NA is an exercise in futility. A new top, while still a pain (lots of rivets to drill), is worth the money.
