I decided to get an extra set of wheels for snow tires this year. I bought a 2014 Elantra earlier this year and had the opportunity to drive it in snow once before winter was over.....I learned that the O.E. Hankook tires are horrendous in slippery conditions.
I got a set of Blizzaks on clearance and a set of black steelies from tirerack.com a couple of weeks ago- decided to paint them body color old school like they used to back in the 60's.......and while I was at it-did some pinstriping on them as well.
At least I won't get depressed looking at my car sitting on plain black wheels this winter.

This is, as the kids say, the sex.

You're welcome with paint near my wheels anytime

That looks amazing. I demand pictures of it on the car.
Are those powdercoated? The paint looks great.

I'm a little surprised...I've got Hankook Optimo H727s on my car, and they handled the ridiculous amount of snow we got last year quite nicely.
Really well done on the steelies, though! Those are gorgeous.

I bought the paint from this place .....it's basecoat/clearcoat.
I applied 2 coats of basecoat (which dries dull) and 3 coats of clearcoat over the base color.
I'm fairly handy with spray paint, but I was surprised on how well they came out.....I'm very pleased with the end result.
I'll probably put them on some time in November....definitely will post up a pic or two.

I bought the car in February and only had it during the last storm of the season.....I had a 35 mile drive up RT83 (Central PA) to Harrisburg for a seminar, just didn't like the way the car handled.
I'm probably spoiled though, my wife has a 2008 Outback with Blizzaks the whole way around, so I am used to really good traction in snow :-)

snow.............? What's that?

I've honestly not driven with winter tires before, so maybe I just don't know.
We live in NE Ohio in the secondary snow belt off of Lake Erie, so we're no strangers to snow. I spent my first five winters up here in a 2WD Dakota with OE tires, then switched to some Firestone Destination LEs. FWD helped a lot, after dealing with that.
On my current Malibu, the Hankooks have about 40K miles on them. If they can't handle the snow this winter, I might consider looking for some steelies and winter tires too.

Do it.
You will be amazed at the difference a set of winter tires make.
As I was growing up, my dad managed a tire store, so I always had winter tires installed on my cars.
I think the best snow car I ever had was my 68 Beetle with studded snow tires.

I'd absolutely believe that, regarding the Beetle on snow tires.

It was awesome....after awhile, the rear fenderwells would get packed up with snow and I could actually get the front wheels off the ground if I popped the clutch. I was only 18 at the time.....I'm surprised I'm still alive.
I did a LOT of dumb stuff in that car.
